Why bother preordering through a retailer?

I see alot of people making threads about their concerns with when they'll be getting they keys / discs whatever from retailers after they prepurchased there

    Game / Amazon etc etc.

I don't understand why so many choose not to use https://buy.guildwars2.com/

    On GW2s own site you

    Pay

    Make an account

Licence key arrives in mail instantly

Email when beta client is available

    3 day headstart guarenteed

    Win?

Cause it's cheaper. And when prepurchasing from a retailer you still get all the same bonuses.

Not everyone has a credit card - believe it or not - and the ability to order things online. I remember being 16 (God, that was over a decade ago... I'm so old) and buying video games more frequently than I do now. I don't know if kids' debit cards have that all important Visa/Mastercard on them. I know I had to use cash for everything back then.

If the situation is the same, now, there's a reason right there.

For me...I live outside of the EU and NA.
I want an EU version of the game. But, if i'd bought on the Anet site it would have automatically given me a NA version of the game. So, I went with another EU retailer.

Also, I believe the thread you've seen is mostly talking about the CE, which has to come through retailers.

Well, Amazon seems to have rised the prices. I got it for 49,99€, but after Tuesday (except a short time, where prepruchase wasn't available at all) the price went up to the same as on the official site. And today they seem to haev added another 5€.

An other reason is that some, including my friend, wanted the pre-purchase perks and a nice box. (I assumed I would just get the code now and a box later when the game gets released.)

But oh well, I seems we now just get a cheap DVD box with no special artwork and a piece of paper. :-(

You have missleading name of thread I think. If you rly talking about pre order vs pre purchase then you still can find better deals with preorder. It depends on region/ country. Ppl buying from UK mentioned that they can preorder cheaper then prepurchase in pounds. Here where I live I can get cheaper deal if I preorder then prepurchasing from Anet site or retailer.
So most likely first reason is price. Even if you actualy talking about prepurchase vs prepurchase you can find cheaper options if you want.

Another reason is that atm one is buying 1 weekened every month of playing, game dont even have relase date and not all ppl want spend money now when they can use them for something else (like Im planing upgrade mine comp and imo thats better investment now then 1 weekend of playing every month). Prepurchase will be avaible shortly till relase so to get benefits of 3 days head start etc, one can still do that.
Its matter of personal choices rly.

Had a giftcard at Gamestop, so it was only logical to use it to pre-purchase.

If I hadn't had a giftcard, I would have done it online.

It's cheaper for me to prepurchase from a local retailer.

    http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/produ...j/Guild-Wars-2 PRICE: 37.40 EURO

    $54,99 = 41.80 EURO

I have a debit card at 14 but I guess I'm in another situation then. I don't know how people can live without them. ^^

I got my game for 10€ less from a retailer and instantly received my key.
    Umad now?

I bought mine on Amazon for 49€ (it would have cost 55€ from ANet directly).
Too bad I live in EU, so I won't receive a "normal" box, just the preorder DVD-sleeve.

However, I'm glad I preordered the prepurchase version (:-D) because now it's sold out on Amazon (at least in my country) :-)

In my case price difference is huge.
For cost of standard edition on Anet site, I get Delux here.

Yea i had a $50 gift card to Gamestop as well or I would have done it online. Though I am happy to get a box now

I was glad you could buy at a store because I do not own a credit card and wouldn't be able to get the game.
Even tho I noticed that at one store it was 49,99 €...
Too bad I bought it already for 54,99 € :P

    And, if I want CE?

Only way there as far as I know is a bricks-and-mortar store.

Because people might want a physical copy and not go digital.

I traded in my xbox 360 to GameStop to pay for GW2, and the games I had I traded in to pay for GW1. I never played the damn thing anyway and when I did I never finished any games, so I said good riddance. I don't think ANet would accept an xbox as payment.

How does that make any sense?

Eliminate the middle man = less money.
I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.

If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.
