Xbox to be banned in Germany after Motorola sues.

Motorola Mobility has been granted an injunction against the distribution of key Microsoft products in Germany.
The sales ban covers the Xbox 360 games console, Windows 7 system software, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.
It follows a ruling that Microsoft had infringed two patents necessary to offer H.264 video coding and playback.
A US court has banned Motorola from enforcing the action until it considers the matter next week.
The handset maker is in the process of being taken over by Google.

Highly unlikely that this will ever affect the availability of Microsoft products anywhere; either Motorola will be forced to provide the technology with less outrageous licensing fees or Microsoft will pay.

In addition, Microsoft has moved their (European) distribution center to The Netherlands.

This exactly, anyone who thinks that sales will stop or be blocked in any country is kidding themselves. This is just a powerplay to get more money at Motorolla admits in OP's source link. This shit goes on with almost every major company every year.

lol no.. you pay the licence fee and its up to the patent owner how much that is. However there are some patents which are part of an agreement called fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. Where there is a low license fee for the good of the consumer.. motorola is trying to get 2.25% of retail for anything that uses its patents (especially from MS and apple). Due to complaints from MS and apple motorola is being investigated by the european antitrust authorities but if they win their case it means bad news for both companies.

This is only a small part of the long list of court battle's between the 2 companies but MS estimate that they could be forced to pay an annual $4 billion fee to Motorola if they win.

Basically technology companies have weaponized the patent process by grabbing and patenting every single possible line of code so they can use it as a tool to tear down other companies.
