Just a random fact for anyone curious. It was an asura who needed help escorting her (I think it was female, don't remember) mini dancing moa birds to.. I think beetletun? She turned into a vendor afterward that sold http://www.gw2db.com/items/50643-mini-moa-egg

Anyways, long story short, some of us may have possibly already seen the female asura dance. I PROBABLY should have recorded it.. oops.
I spent so much time in Beetlerun... how did i not see her...

I saw that dance, but I didn't even think about racial dances, either. Doh!

I can't even remember what it looked like.

    1) I may have the location wrong, all I remember is it was in some walled level 15ish 'city', which I believe was beetletun and 2) it was escorting her TO beetletun, I don't know where she started. I was there when she arrived, did not help escort her.

Oh her. The one that danced with the trained moas. She was indeed female and the dancing animations looked pretty good, though nothing recognizable.

    Ah, here we go:

Mountains rise in the distance stalwart as the stars, fading forever.
Roads ever weaving, soul ever seeking the hunter's mark.

Wasn't implying that it was an amazing dance or anything along those lines, mind you. Was simply pointing out that a fully animated dance was in the game. I doubt they would do that just for a single DE (though with Anet, you never know) so it could probably be assumed that the female Asura dance will either be that or very similar to that.

I actually really like that. I'm not a fan of putting popular dances in games. Even if it is something, I don't recognize it.

I'm going to take a stab at it and say that they will do it via races this time around. While prof based dances would be AWESOME!!!! I don't see it happening, and a lot of it I would put down to a couple things. First, because of the different races, if the animations stayed the same across races, some dances might look quite awkward on some races than on others. AND, add in having both female and male dances (because that's expected). Essentially they would have to make 2 dances per race for each profession anyways (give or take a few as some might be able to be used cross race, but people might get mad at that).

Doing it by race means 10 dances overall anyways which is quite a lot. If we were to further make more dances for the separate professions, well 8 profs with 2 sexes, 16 dances by 5 races.. well, I'm sure you see my point. Mainly, I just can't see an Asura doing the same dance as a Charr doing the same dance as a Human. And all that would equal an awful lot of time and money being spent into a whole lot of dances if we were to further separate into professions.

As it is, I have very high expectations from A-net regarding the dances anyways. GW1's were very very good animation wise. For example, the female dervish one, my sister is a professional dancer (Ballet/Jazz/Hip hop mostly) and the look of the female dervish dance is... quite accurate for the moves that are displayed (she even spots herself on most spins!!). Oh, and the monk ones were just fun. ANd can't leave without saying... female Necro, that is all.

    It's basically The Robot.

Well, to get technical, there's boting, yes; but there's also some waving and gliding as well. It would be slightly easier to tell if I was seeing it from a slightly different angle and zoomed in a bit more.

It wouldn't be recognizable because it just a standard set of moves, it's not a routine that any one person does or has made "famous."

I'm pretty sure "The Robot" doesn't really have any specific signature moves attached to it, really. Just robot-like motions. That Asura was definitely making robot-like motions... but I think you're right about the "waving and gliding" too.

Who knows, maybe ANet is going to make totally original dances.

This message has the Asura Toaster Stamp of Approval.

On the topic, if you tried "/dance" during the BWE, you might've noticed there was no "Invalid command" response, as there would be if you tried a slash command that wasn't implemented. So yeah, there definitely will be dances, but the animations are (were?) not implemented yet.

yes it was confirmed by a dev during beta. Someone happened to record the dev confirming it in chat.

Gearbreaker is funny and all, but the same video linked twice in one thread? Geez. Didn't think he was anywhere near that well known.

  18. #38
The /dance command is in game already, but the animation isn't. Can't do anything but wait!

They will have a ton of emotes, they are not yet finished and some Arenanet Dev's in game said there would be last weekend.
They dont even have in place a system or chat button to show you what emotes there are, there was laugh and wave etc, but i was just randomly guessing each one.

im hoping not, its so much wasted animation on nothing
