Wow. I never played Runescape, but I'm familiar with it and this is indeed really impressive. Hats off.
Wow. I never played Runescape, but I'm familiar with it and this is indeed really impressive. Hats off.
This game was the shit back in the day, LOVED it, used to mine, fish, and chop trees for all the emotes and tabards.
Oh well, guess this had to happen sooner or later.. I usually come back to Runescape a few times a year, just enjoying the game for a month at a time. This could either enhance the quest experience, which is what I always loved in this game! When i came to wow after having played Runescape, I actually thought something along these lines "Man, graphics and everything is great about this game, but how come the quests suck this hard? I mean, kill 10 of that collect some of this, never did such boring questing in Runescape."
.. That got pretty off-traack..
Never the less, hope this change won't destroy my half-yearly trips of Runescape nostalgia. Crossing my fingers on this one.
So... Runescape is going to be a hotkey MMO? Is that what I'm seeing here?
Awesome!
Played RS for 7+ years left it for WoW and other games and never looked back and never will. Ever heard people saying League of Legends ( or any other game to that matter) has the worst community ever? Well this game has worse. Most of the players you will encounter are usually under the age of 15 but if player base wasn't bad enough it is important to mention about the greatness of the dev team.
Now imagine for a second Blizzard put a price tag on every single item and made a system where it had to be bought or sold within that price. You also had a limit to how much gold could be traded between players, Now I understand this has been fixed but devs who bring these "features" to their game are just morons. The game is a big playground for gold sellers ( a lot worse than WoW).
There is a reason why the gamer base look down on RS( No, not the graphics) but the terrible player base and the brain killing/mindless/boring grind for skills. There are over 20+ skills in this game and each take over 3 months to max out ( A lot less if you no life it), mind you this is 3 months of doing the exact same thing. Movement is click to move and combat is click to attack, Well till they release the new system.
If you are looking for a goal oriented game which has tons of fun quests Runescape is a good choice but as a combat.community and game play there are many( Free MMOs .most of RS is Paid) then look elsewhere.
PS: Not too surprised how many people have their First MMO as Runescape, People are just attracted to grinds

I always said RuneScape would probably be my favorite MMO if it just fixed the combat and control mechanics.
Man, I used to love this game. I'd love to get back into it, but seeing as they still have a sub fee I'd rather leave it as a nostalgic memory. RS had amazing quests (though they required ages of grinding to unlock) but the game really hasn't aged all that well. This just seems like another kind of desperate attempt to get people back, like getting back wildy and adding a semi pay-to-win mechanic
Don't get me wrong, this update looks great and all, but I hardly can say that I'm super excited for it. Combat really does need a remake, it's unbelievably simple at the moment (to the point where you can literally afk grind - pop pots + ss/deflect curses gg ) but I've got a feeling that while it'll make it more fun, it'll still be a bit...uh...underwhelming.
I recently resubbed seeing as a few new quests have been added, but then I realized I needed 77 agility. Seriously? I'm not going to spend 20 hours on agility :\ One HUGE fault of runescape - the skills are either afkable / near afkable (firemaking anyone?) or stupidly involving to the point where you're mindlessly clicking (agility).
All they did was multiply every by 10. You had 99 hp? You now have 990. You did 34 damage? You now to 340. It was done to make things more...fun...I suppose? Whatever - people freaked out about it, but really nothing changed.

Always thought Runescape was bad, this doesn't change exactly change my mind either.
This doesn't look any more compelling than the old Runescape.
I am definitely going to keep an eye on this. I played runescape for a few years before I started WoW and it was a pretty good game. Now it looks like it will be more like a real Mmo with the combat system and the graphics (while not the best) seem to be pretty good now.
I played the hell out of some runescape for several years maxed out a lot of skills then found wow.. this change looks great for the game and if its good I may start playing it again every now and then..
This was my first mmo too, can't quite remember when I had started playing it, but for getting into mmos goes, this one is really easy, and probably the cause of the lower aged playerbase, or at least everyone one i met were quite young, like 14 in most cases, also hated there economy, talk about controlling the market. And I guess after they had no trade limit again inflation hit hard, I gave my account to a friend of mine who I told I had a decent amount of gold on and apparently what I had was nothing nowadays.
That rat bastard lied to me, stuff actually looks cheaper, is 50M a lot in there still? I never did get caught up in those buying clans, or whatever they were called.

they should have left it as it was back in 2006 :/
Tried out the beta, the only complaint I have it seems like a lot of abilities have high cds (20+ seconds), and that you can't change the camera keys, something like w, a ,s ,d for camera keys would be a lot better as it would be a more comfortable place for my hand and arm to sit versus arrow keys, and be easier to reach keybindings like 1, 2, 3, 4, q, e, r, etc... I also hope they add modifier keys to allow you to easier move between bars, because as it stands you have to click to change bars.
However it does seem really impressive, at least people won't fall asleep training now.
I have to admit Runescape was my second totally unhealthy MMO addiction. Ultima Online was my first, but god I was going through serious withdrawals when my parents forbid me from playing this game when I was younger. They had the site banned through a filter on all our computers because I kept trying to get back on. I remember one time when they went on some trip I played for 48 hours straight. The game sure has come a long way since I last played it.
