Now that the cheating fire damage is cut in half, I can see that working. Previously, leaving the king in fire for 20s would be a game ender.

I soloed it using the same strat I posted above before patch. It just failed when rng didn't favor me and the king stood back.

Control the bishop and shoot the Orc King until you think The Orc King is going to make flames. Be in the Human King when he casts it and move the king out of it, then go back to the bishop and shoot the Orc King. Continue to do this until you lose both bishops, then use the Human King to finish the Orc King.

Get Seed of Tranquil Growth from Nasra Spothide in Valley of the Four Winds. Pop the trinket before engaging the event, and it will heal whatever wounded piece you jump into for 25k, with no cooldown apart from the "Recently in game" timer.

No more fustration over bad RNG and/or horrible AI.

I've one shot it every time with this strat, even through terrible RNG:
    1. Start in King, hit Hero, leave
    2. Move King's Pawn forward one space
    3. Move Knights' Pawns out one space
    4. Move Rooks diagonal two spaces towards the center of the board
    5. Get in Queen and kill anything that gets close, prioritizing guys close to your King or on your Rooks; Rain of Fire on cooldown and fill with Ice Lance

    Additionally:
    • Move your King and Queen out of fire when Medivh cheats (just forward/backward); don't worry about other pieces
    • Move your Queen if stuff can hit it
    • Heal your King and Queen if you really need to (90% of the time, you won't)
    • Sometimes, the enemy will rush a side of the board and potentially mess up your Rook positioning. Watch for this and move quickly so they can't. Securing those exact positions as early as possible is the key to winning quickly and easily

    - Jump in the King, blow Heroism.
    - Move the pawn in front of the knight
    - Move the Water Elemental 3 times diagonally
    - Move the pawn in front of the King
    - Move the Queen if she is in the fire. If the King is in the fire, leave him alone, he'll get healed
    - Move the other pawn in front of the Knight
    - If the other Queen isn't to far out I'll move the other Water Elemental diagonally 3 times.
    - At this point I take control of the Queen and attack what I can. I maintain 3 spaces from the piece I am attacking. If necessary I move the King out of harms way or hop in a Bishop to heal him.

What usually ends up happening is I can attack the king with my Queen but she has two or three things beating on her and moving her just means I lose damage on the King, she dies soon anyway. At that point I don't have much that can beat down the King in time. I can rarely kill the other Queen, and I think that's my biggest problem but I'm not sure how to take her out.

    4. Move elemental to where the pawn is.
    5. Move pawn to the right of other elemental.
    6. Jump in king and get ready to move for cheat.
    7. Move the elemental to where the pawn was.

From there you just move the elementals up 1 more block so they are both aoeing the center, and heal the king as needed, while dpsing with the queen. Perhaps I will make a video of it.

It is really hit or miss from there. There have been times where both my king, queen, and an elemental got put on fire. I would say 75% of the time I get it on the first try though.
Actually WoWInsider featured an article using this EXACT strat a few days ago. I would STRONGLY suggest checking it out.

Soloed it the last two weeks without a problem so I will share my strategy:

    -king->bloodlust
-move pawns infront of both knights up
    -move rooks in these spots

from there the prioreties are the following:
-move king out of fire/away from enemy king etc, using BL when ready
-move your queen away from fire
-attack enemie king with your queen
-heal your king if nessecary with bishop, but only if he is in a distant safe spot beforehand

Basicly if nothing gets wrong you juzt keep on changing between you king and queen.

Edit: Ha, thats the same like everyone above is suggesting too. Oh; well...

That's hilarious if that actually works, but it's really not necessary anymore lol. With the hot fix chess is insanely easy.

It definately does, read about it tried it out today. My king tanked two enraged (cheat) horses, a solider and enemy king while standing in fire, and I could heal him up back to full over and over just jumping in and out of him.

While it's easier to beat normal now than pre 5.3, there is still stupid rng/bad AI involved, and no matter how well you play you will fail to your pieces doing absolutely nothing but suicide running without attacking and stuff like that. At least I will use the trinket and 1 shot it guaranteed every time now.

Nowadays, "Chess Event" is the hardest boss in Karazhan but its easily farming solo without problems if you know the sequence of movements. To kill the enemy King you need only to make some turns of Demons (the most damaging figure), your own king and Warlock for DPS (additionally).
You can watch this video if you have some problems and answer to your all questions.

So I've been soloing this weekly for about 5 weeks now. I have never gotten into the "queen" piece. I do what most say here, I get into King piece and pop hero. Then I move a few of the pawns forward, usually the ones in front of the bishop, queen, king, bishop. Then I just hop into the bishops and heal, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, heal. My heal priortity are the pawns, then the bishop himself and finally the king (if needed). It takes awhile this way usually there are very few pieces left by the end... but i never move the king out of the fire and he doesn't die.

Good luck with whatever strat you use - I find there is still a slight Rng element to this that can beat you occasionally.
