Yeah I'm skipping this one
All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.
Not gonna lie some of those changes are not well thought.
But overall its ok. Some meta shakeup, nothing really game changing.
This league however is probably gonna push me to make 2 chars, one boss killer and one mapper as its going to be too much of a hassle to have it on one character.
So controlled destruction is now unusable for crit builds (maybe that was it's original intended purpose). Awakened Hextouch is now virtually worthless without the extra curse. Spellslinger was already hard to make work but now I don't see it happening if their trigger will affect mana on top of the reservation. Archmage is probably dead too as well.
The wise wolf who's pride is her wisdom isn't so sharp as drunk.
I thought Hypothermia being better for non-cold dot builds (like bleed) then for actual cold dot builds was an 'interesting' choice.

Figured I would quickly check damage changes with PoB updated.
Barely played Ultimatum so loaded up my 87 EQ champ from Ritual. Gear that I am sure most players would consider absolute garbage (I'm a casual SSF player)
lost almost 50% damage.
This isn't just a nerf where the top builds go from 10mil dps to 6 mil and barely notice. This is scrub builds going from 260k to 140k.
Guess I'll go play D3, haven't done that in a while.

It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
I quit Ult after getting to 95 and clearing all the way through Maven (~3 weeks for me). I was excited to come back for this one but No new chase, and severe nerfs with out GGG fixing the other things players have issues with has turned me away.
Top 3 Fixes for me that GGG could/would introduce:
- Chase items, give us reasons to farm bosses.
- New league mechanic fits into mapping, instead of replacing.
- Move rewards to bosses\hard encounters and away from density spam.
Number 1 thing they will never fix but should:
- Trade.

SSF isn't for casuals. If you have very little time you dont play ssf.
Neither is EQ or slams in general. Those builds required specific gear to work and if you can't do that your damage would be comparable to a single raised zombie.
For totally "idgaf" players finding a build to copy is the way to go. Otherwise you need to understand at least some game mechanics.
I have had fun playing SSF as a casual since Abyss League.
I don't care that my character is considered trash, I had fun playing him until I inevitably get bored of farming and go play something else until the next league. I have done this for almost 4 years now and I enjoy it.
This league only makes the game more frustrating, doesn't fix any of the actual flaws that define PoE gameplay (random 1 shots out of nowhere mean the only safety is in instantly clearing the entire screen and constantly zoom around because to stand still is to invite death)
You don't get to decide if I play the game 'right' or not and certainly not if I enjoy playing the way I do.

PoB fork is updated and man...checked a few characters I had and there's something screwy going on with levels (telling me that they should be like 97 based on passive points when they're defo not, and nothing seems out of place), but damn the nerfs hit. Lost at least 30%+ damage on my cyclone dudes, ancestral warchief chieftan lost a bit more, and I'm pretty sure that between the damage loss and the cost of triggers my exsanguinate spellslinger is well and truly dead.
Not everyone is uber hardcore with characters that can one tap bosses. It's not hard to look at the numbers and see that this league will be absolutely slower and more deadly than leagues previously, player damage got gutted, player defense got reduced, enemies are just as deadly (if not moreso, especially with ailment immunity going away and poison being much scarier).
You don't have to be hardcore to one tap bosses. You could and still can do it as casual with barely time invested.
Fastest way to do it (assuming you finished campaign and progressed a little so you have some currency) is to do flipping for 2-3 days (~4h a day), buy decent gear for solid build (non-meta) and there you go. You instantly jumped to 4M+ damage.
This game is does not have any blocks for casuals like I said couple of pages ago.
The build I played went from 18m endgame dps to 7m dps, I won't be playing this game anymore. The nerfs make the game not fun.
Guess tens of thousands of players are "doing it wrong" then?
Ah yes, playing the trade game like GGG...didn't intend? I think a fair number trade, even if the trading system is still a nightmare and fuckin awful, but I don't think many people playing are looking to spend huge amounts of time trading and flipping shit, it's painfully unfun and kinda counter to the whole point of the game, including from GGG who don't want trade to be the best way to get gear (as they continue to make sure that drops are absolute hot garbage and continually nerf deterministic crafting).
But that's a lot of assumptions like - that there will be a strong build they want to play that can reach those numbers, that the gear will be available to them, that they'll have success (or even realistically know how to) spend days flipping items (most casuals, myself included, are nowhere near familiar enough with the trade economy for this) etc. etc.
It does, you're just too stuck seeing things from your PoV that you can't step back.
The league will be just fine. The players who play 10 hours each league like the level 87 guy above will lose 30% of damage and instead of quitting while doing yellow maps, he quits doing white maps. Does not matter.
For me instead of killing last phase of A9 in 4 seconds - I'll do it in 5. People exaggerate a lot.
I assume that 95% of the "playerbase" never did A9 to begin with. So the nerfs are even more irrelevant if your main content was doing some white maps.
If you take that level 87 example. What do you think he achieved in ritual being level 87? He has never reached red maps. Never killed any boss. Do you think he will notice 30-40% less damage doing white/yellow maps? Instead of one-shotting everything he might need 2 hits for rares now.
Yes, if they expect to have same results as people who grind all day by bruteforcing shit and banging their heads against a wall then yes.
Its true for any game.
Trade is absolutely intended mechanic. GGG doesn't want it to be trivial and fast. But their main focus is obviously SC Trade league.
If people don't want to trade they need to grind more, simple as that. You don't need best gear to one tap bosses.
That is because the lack of deep understanding of game. In order to play strong build you need to know interactions between items, how to build up defense, what cheap uniques you can use instead and so on. PoE is not and never will be a game when you can just hop and build something with zero knowledge. You either learn or copy something that already works.
Nope it does not. I have uber casual friend who plays leages for maybe 40-60 hours and quits. In that time he is able to kill A8 with ease. I am not hardcore either.
You simply refuse to learn and try to play this game without trying to understand interactions and how to do stuff efficiently.
You literally go on this rant the same time every league. You don't need to encyclopedic level of knowledge in this game to have fun, and kill content. Prior to this league you could literally go Mines or Zombies and kill any content. Stating you need a "deep understanding of game" is just sliding your glasses up your nose and saying "well actually". Don't talk down to people or gatekeep them because they do not live and breathe this game. The most popular leagues in this games history are some of the fastest, and GGG is trying to kill those.
I have over 4000 hours in this game at this point, and was killing Maven and everything easily last league, yet I think this upcoming league is a terrible design decision. So does Ziz, so does Neversink, so does Tarke and Raiz. Now before you go "I dont care what streamers say" their opinions are valuable indicators of the state of the game as they are literally people whose day to day life is financially impacted by the state of the game. Will they still play the game, yes, but many are already limiting their followers expectations. The damage is not what matters, its the death of movement skills, its the death of Spellslinger\trigger skills cause they now spend the mana on top of reserving it. Its the increased mana costs that will make it difficult for people to fit 6 links in their build. All of those will be felt by everyone.
Did GGG need to fix issues with the game, of course, but as evident by Chris's reddit post, they don't care about feedback and will work on their narrow view of the game, and not address the common complaints.

Well if you read what I wrote:
Not sure what are you trying to prove with hyperbolics. You either learn or copy something that already works.
The amount of time you spent in this game really doesn't prove anything or give you any kind of guru status. Funny how you mention streamers and did some selection to prove your point. Well going with that logic quin69 should be best indicator of state of game as he has more views than all of those combined
Reality is, however not all of those changes were well thought, thats something I said couple posts before. Still, doesn't change the fact game needed complete nerf of player power as it was getting ridiculous.
I don't care if they pander to community, actually I do, I like they ignore whining children and continue with their fairly consistent vision.
A) no one said amount of viewers meant anything. Quin's viewers would watch him play Power Washing Simulator, but when you have dedicated POE streamers that have been playing since beta calling foul on the changes, there are issues.
B) consistent vision is a joke.
At exilecon Chris said they will not do drastic changes one way or another, this patch proves that is not consistent.
Chris said in 2020 they do not want to add currency tabs or other QOL tabs. We have all of them.
Chris has repeatedly said that if he had his true vision, SSFHC would be the only game mode in the game. Yet you say that GGG is focused first on trade.
Chris wont fix us picking up individual items because it "Adds weight" per his vision, yet the China Client has a pet that picks up bubblegum currency.
Chris said they wont fix trade yet the China Client has an entirely different trade UI.
You see any issue with their consistent vision? Or you gonna keep pounding your chest because you think you are special because you think you are better because you don't want QOL changes, and like the game confusing and difficult. The straight facts are, this game has been struggling with retention, and there are fundamental problems with the game that players of all levels have been begging to be fixed. And GGG has ignored nearly all of them and instead went on to break more things. Nerfing power if fine, as long as you compensate by fixing grinds and idiotic things like picking up 40 individual items of a currency from a single loot pile.
