I also picked up my Xonar Essense STX last night, and I severely need something better than my old 1" Logitech computer speakers. Lawl.
Cyanotical uses some KRK Rokit8's and KRK is an excellent brand. I'd say buy them and if you are unhappy with them/they don't sound right, you can always use that horrible/amazing Ebay buyer's protection, er oops, you're buying from Craigslist, they have something similar yes?

Nah, it's more or less a newspaper listing. Buyer beware sort of deal. The guy already sold em by the time I got to him. Is there any other self powered monitors out there?

That sounds tremendously boring and less eventful!

Soooo, if I were to get Samson Media One 5A, without a sub, what would the performance gain/loss be over the SP2500's? With shipping included, the Samsons would be cheaper, how is the bass output on yours Deltrus? Don't you have 4A's? And are the only differences in the 5A and 4A 1" on the speaker?

I have 3As and they are good enough for me, for the most part. The bass is there, though I could understand some people wanting more. I have heard the 5As at my local Sam Ash store and they are far more... present.

Well, if you were going to pair a sub with them, which would you go with? I know you said studio monitors paired with a matching sub, but I can't seem to find any Samson sub's on the company site. That is, if I feel the need for more bass when I get them.

It seems like they took one sub out of the lineup, it's a little pricey, but you could still get this one:

I'd maybe even suggest getting some of the Resolv monitors to properly go with it, like the A5's or A6's.

one of the main reasons i recommend the KRK RP5s with the STX is that they plug straight into the card and are self powered, literally 4 wires: left, right, and 2 power cables

That's why I'm lookin at the Samson 5a's. Same deal, only $100 less.

True, but I would personally say the KRK's are a bit of a step higher, still the Samsons sound great and pack a powerful punch, no less. Though the KRKs also need a sub less, as they both have their own sort of dedicated sub port type of thing on the bottom of them.
