    Guild wars gear appearance

Hi there, quick question, i perused the forums looking to see about gear appearance. i noticed in some videos i saw on youtube when people were showcasing the gear, it looked like for each race, the profession gear looked different. is that how it is in GW2?

Don't believe there is any profession specific gear. There's just gear that very much fits the theme of certain professions.

Some gear is race specific in appearance. Most gear is shared in appearance between all races.

There is 'cultural armour' which changes on race, and some professions' gear is different based on race simply because the models can't be duplicated on such different body types.

The gear your character starts out wearing is the closest you get to profession specific armor. After you are in game all the armor appearances aside from the ratial armor are only subdivided by weight class. Any scholor can wear light armor so a Necro, Mesmer, or Elementalist could all wear armor that looks identical if they chose. ARmor can be thematically more appropriate for one profession or another but in the end its users choice on what they want to look like.

Gear is taking a less extravagant direction, I believe. Like you won't be wearing armour with giant floating crystals, particle effects, fire coming out of every crack in the armour, etc. That stuff never really turned up in GW1 and I don't think we'll be seeing it in GW2

Correct, that was prety much limited to specific pieces you could colect that were not really part of any specific set, Most of them were gloves as I recall.

those are the main examples of excessive crystals, glows or firey cracks and were all either somewhat expensive or timeconsuming to farm for (last one was cheepest because a prefered solo farming spot droped the items to craft it)

Thing is, they looked stupid. It's like... Your chest armour suddenly ends and then you have shiny hands. It looked ridiculous.

As if they were wearing neon marigolds and had their sleeves rolled up ready to wash the pots.

These gloves need to have flames coming off them.

The trick of selling a FFA-PvP MMO is creating the illusion among gankers that they are respectable fighters while protecting them from respectable fights, as their less skilled half would be massacred and quit instead of “HTFU” as they claim.

You are welcome Actually it is a Fan creation from the user Imaginos on GW2Guru.

That's quite helpful, though I imagine that it will look significantly different on a male Charr!
Don't forget that the colour is totally up to you.

I was previewing the armor and weapons at the vendors in Lions Arch today in the stress test and I remembered this post.

There is armor with floating stuff, particle effects, and fire effects. I saw one set of gear that had big lantern type things floating behind the shoulders. The flame legion and shaman gear all had animated fire effects on the helm/gloves/shoulders, and 1 of the sets had the effects on the chest, and then the weapons sold from that same vendor had weapons with fire effects. There was another vendor that had weapons with animated red lightning effects. I didn't check all the weapons so I don't know what else there was, but you most definitely will be seeing this type of stuff in GW2.
