my name has only 1 syllable

    and for people just arrived:
(my name is not hassun, hutton or haeton
my name derives from the old anglo-american word for settlement (on a hill)
an oscar-winning actor bears my name)
Tun or ton is "settlement" in Old English, so I'm at a bit of a loss, unless you mean the City Upon a Hill/Mount parable?

    Guess: Preston

Edward? Can't think of a Spanish Edward though :/

Stretching my historical recall to hit all the hints here!

Edit: Louis, maybe? Though I think he was son to a French Henry, not sure if that was included in the original hint.

well I think i must apologize, I might formulated it wrong
as he acted in a movie, and he won an oscar for that movie, but not for his acting role...
so he won an oscar and is an actor... but is in fact not an oscar winning actor...

my english and mistakes made it harder than it should be...

im sure, if you found out about Montgomery Clift, its easy to find my real name, so I give a devastating hint...
there is an actor with my name... who is quite a 'dirty' man with no name...

P.S. you have to give hints for people to guess your name
Aha! I thought we were supposed to figure out the previous name first ;-)

Anyways; my name is the same as the name of the adherents of a common religion.
