But I don't want to just know "it's the best". I want to know WHY it's the best. What is it that makes it so awesome? What makes it stand out from other RPGs?

It's challenging, the story is brilliant, unlike other games, this one actually punishes you for dying. You can't simply load a previous save since there's no such thing. The game pretty much saves after every single swing you do or after every step you take. You should probably ask Ziru for a better explanation, he's better at these things than I am.

I watched my friend play Demon Souls back in the day but never got it myself, only got Dark Souls after watching the same friend play it. Might buy Demon Souls.

Although I did read that Demon Souls is even a bigger bitch with dying. You die? Start the area all over again..
