5 vowels, yes. As far as the actual sounds typically go there are about 105, plus some extra they need to mash together for foreign words. The sound "che" does not exist in actual Japanese for instance, but they use the word "check-in" for check-ins at the airport and such. Hell, they have their own alphabet for foreign words.

And it's more than just stresses though. I can still go through the whole alphabet if you'd really like, but it'd take a fairly large post.
