I’m unsure how a comparison would look, but owls have epic damage and their self-healing is extremely good. They also have the benefit of being ranged, so that’s a definite plus in their favour.

But a Feral can pounce.

Solo, feral is way better since you can make great use of bear. With some friends feral is still great, though it you have someone else who is slightly tanky then Balance can heal very well now while doing dmg.

I think feral is very inferior to balance when solo'ing content. You get worse AoE-burst as balance, but you rarely need it when soloing old stuff. Balance has great self-healing and made both Onyxia, Kael'thas, OS2D, Naxx and Malygos easy to solo in 5.0.4 at 85.
