[Ret] Fix my DPS!

I am in need of some advice too by now. Finally I got my 4 piece set of the T18, and the classtrinket from Archimonde. Now my old CLCRet string is outdated. I know that I have to use the Crusader Strike every 7 to 9 seconds, but I have a hard time figuring out a good string on my own. Can anyone provide a rotation for CLCRet that not only works properly, but also includes the fact that I have to use the Crusader Strike on a regular basis to keep the buff up?

One thing I can recommend is stop using clcret and start using Hekili. That should help a lot.

Hello. I had been playing ret in late tbc (sunwell mostly). Nothing is even close anymore, so i would like to ask for basic starter help. I should also mention im reading the other ret thread so i have an idea what to expect, but no clue on basics.

So, stats. From what i understand mastery is the most important of the secondary stats, followed closely by crit,multistrike and haste. I know stats values depend on where ur current gear stands atm (have 4p-t18 and EDH from raiding as holy) but is there a point where u would value haste a lot lower than the other stats? (i.e. if u u have 15% raid buffed ?)

Talents. From what im reading our lvl100 talents are about equal in dps output, with Final Verdict being easier to play and being better on aoe/cleave fights, while Seraphim excels on single target and/or burst fights while being harder to use cause of timing its use while at the same time making sure not to lose heavy hitting gcd while in it.

Seals. Is it so that seal of truth is good only for single target fights where on aoe or even with one add cleave fights seal of righteousness is better?

Thats all for now. I know some (or even all) of these might sound silly to seasoned ret-palas, but would be greatful if i could get some answers. Thx

If you have EDH then seal of righteousness is better on fights with 2+ targets like tyrant. If not, yes Seal of truth is better for single target and righteous for aoe fights

Now, granted it's only the guild's 2nd kill and my first, but I need to do a lot better.

I don't think you're doing anything horribly wrong, here's what I noticed:

1: Your es/wings/sera got out of sync as the fight progressed. I think you should try delaying your first wings till 5HP so you can drop the first ES > AW > SERA together and it makes it easier to keep in sync as the fight progresses. Your warrior is delaying ring till ~8sec in anyway.

2: The 8m fight length doesn't help you. Ret looks better on shorter fights. Given that fight length I don't think you should chain your 2nd wings like you did instead I'd leave it till the next ES/AW/Sera combo.. exception: if you get fel rage.

3: Looks like your guild is hero'ing/lusting around about 2min in on Gurtogg you probably want to chain 2x AW there imo.

As your team gets more gear the fight length will get shorter and ret will start to look better, you'll need to revise when you use cd's. For example my guilds first kill was 9m, hero/lust was 2ish in, our kill this week was 6m, hero/lust was at 1:30 in.. had to use cd's differently.

Also when you find ES/AW/Sera timing isn't lining up well with raid cd's (ring/hero) because of your guilds raid dps/current kill speed, you can just play FV.. it's actually pretty competitive on that fight.

Overall it's a pretty crap fight for us compared to other classes.

Looked at Iron Reaver:
- Used wings once in 5min fight
- Didn't pre pot or use a 2nd str pot. Did you have 125 mastery food, great strength flask and 50 str rune?
- Prioritizing judgment over crusader strike in the rotation, so wrong rotation
- Didn't have any set bonuses at the time

Looking at Killrogg

Crusader strike procs seals and mastery (hand of light) it's better then Judgment and Exo, re-learn the T18 rotation and why.. below opener is wrong in multiple ways:

Questions, concerns, expectations: in a now 9/13m guild, consistently doing mid-low tier damage. enough so that i'm under fire for "not playing to my class's potential" and risk losing my spot on a regular basis. i need to figure out what on earth i'm doing wrong and how to fix it. trinket advice per boss, any rotational concerns, anything and everything, just hit me with it. thanks in advance. imo my wings usage is wrong but feel free to take a look.
Description of Playstyle: I use helkili as a rotational addon, from my understanding its preferable to clcret, but if not that would also be something to mention.

Iron Reaver: Really hard to rank on this now unless you kill boss before air phase, guilds 2-3 heal to do that regularly now. Continue to use Seraphim during air phase, take speed of light and run to wherever the bombs are to keep dps up during air phase. Before air phase you can ride the blitz away and back to keep dps'ing if you're feeling ballsy.. Sacred Shield / Div Prot / Tonic to stay alive and bubble then cancel bubble the dot off after the 2nd blitz back.

Kormrok: Light's Hammer, DC trinket if you have it otherwise libram is ok... Light's hammer and AW 5-8sec before every grasping hands make sure you have FV buff 5HP banked and a EmpDS proc for right when the hands spawn (even if this means using generators when 5hp for a few sec before hands). Don't bother to try FV/DS weave after the first one during the hands - they will die to fast in most guilds... spam DS to proc/use EmpDS procs before they die. Depending on your guild kill time you will need to use an extra 1-2 wings charge somewhere else if it's a short kill time.

Can't be bothered looking at the rest at the moment but generally it's things like that.. smarter use of positioning/cool down usage etc.

I also recommend you check out Thete's and Trixx's youtube channel, they post videos of their mythic boss kills and it's good to see how people tackle things differently, how they position and use cd's etc

What kinda numbers should I be shooting for? I have 49% mastery buffed, 7% haste, 15% crit, 17% multi.... I dunno what percents are ideal.

Well, the numbers you normally want to pull are those that make you competitive within your raid group; so if you're not in a party what do you need the numbers for?

Just seem delayed. Could have fit in an extra ES around the 2min mark. Your AW usage is concerning. On a short fight like Zakuun, you should be using them back to back to back, and then using your 4th usage at 30% with lust/ring/2nd pot.

There is no reason on a fight like Zakuun that your Sera/Es/AW shouldn't stay 100% synced. Yours are off, by a lot.

Your legendary ring is not enchanted.

Questions, concerns, expectations: I am very concerned about my dps and parses compared to other ret pallys and i can tell that my raid leader is getting irritated at my lacking ability to play at the point that a mythic raider should be at. At this point I think it is the use of my cd's but I am not 100% sure.

Description of Playstyle: I sync up ES and AW for almost every fight as best as i can. I use the Hekili rotation addon with default strings.

I thought I logged out in ret outfit, but meh. I play around 707-710 ilvl depending on trinket choices, using 700 EDH and either mythic Vial of convulsive shadows or normal LoV depending on fights (and on me not being a fucktard and forgetting to swap)

I thought I did kinda well on this fight, then seeing me so low on the rankings (even for ilvl bracket) made me wonder. Is it a matter of exploiting the hands ? I think I had the time only to get one divine storm on em, so meh.

Generally I'd like any tips on how I should use seraphim better, as I'm still getting used to it (I switch to FV on bosses with either heavy aoe or when i'm still unconfortable with the strat), as I feel i'm lacking there. (our socrethar kill was utter shit, we delayed ring for like 1min20' for litterally 0 benefit since half the raid was dead by then ...)

Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted here as I have reluctantly given up my tanking spot due to becoming a father. Running around as one of several DPS means that the raid can continue on its normal schedule without worrying about whether or not the baby is going to let me raid. That said, I still don't feel like I'm performing anywhere close to my potential (which is very frustrating when we had normal Mannaroth down to under 400k when we wiped). I am still running 2 pc tier 17 while waiting on the gloves to drop so I can switch to 4pc. I thought that was better than using the shoulders right now. I also have crafted pants for when the chest drops off of Mannaroth. Greatly appreciate advice and gentle positive criticism as I strive to get better to help contribute to my team's success. Thanks for all thoughts.

Calling all pro Ret Pallies.
Currently myself and my guild are doing Heroic HRF 6.2.2 we are 12-13 atm progression on Archi. I feel my DPS is struggling. I seriously have no idea what Im doing wrong, at the end of some fights im doing 50-60k and there are some fights where I'm doing 45-50k. Which makes me sad, because I'm trying everything I found online to push me up those meters and help me and my guild out. My current ilvl is 711-13 depending on my if remember to change (AOE or Single Target Trinkets) on fights. Ill link my details below and hopefully I can get back some useful information, to bring back to my raids.


As im trying to experiment with talents I change from Sanctified Wrath to Divine Purpose to see if there would be any difference. I dont see much difference in fights.
Glyphsouble Jeopardy, Templar's Verdict, Mass Exorcism

Opener: Is pretty much AW with strength pot (2sec) from pull, Execution then its Hammer of Wrath (HoW), Crusader Strike (CS), continue this process till 5 holy power then dump it with Final Verdict (FV) then rinse and repeat till wings go away. I do have the T18 4 set as well. Im not sure if Im holding back on my Avenging Wrath on somefights as Hero/lust is pop at random stages of the fights and I would like to make sure I have my 2nd Pot and Avenging Wrath available during this time.

I feel that my rotation might be off, after my opener. I dont know if I should use Exorcism if it procs and I have nothing off CD yet, or should I just wait for CS or Judgment. Divine Storm confuses me, do I build to 5 holy power drop Final Verdict then build up Holy power to drop Divine storm? Or is that wrong..

If anyone looks at my logs, you will see how my dps fluctuates and is rarely at a constant lvl. (bare in mind low dps would mean I'm dead.)

Hey Zalas.
Without having logs to look at, people will have a hard time to help you, but personaly i cant really read logs... So meh....

If you say that you do about 50-60k dps on Archimonde, its pretty much fine, especially if you go into Nethers (which are a huge drop on Dps for Paladins.)

40-45k dps is fine for the boss, but you really should keep on doing what you do to get to at least 50 because you can.

From what you wrote i will tell you this:

- for Archimonde, use either HA (Holy Avenger) or SW (Sanctified Wrath) as they both are better than DP (Devine Purpose). (I would suggest SW, but it dependa on your preference)
- while Wings are up, just build up 3 Holy Power and dump them with FV... No need to build 5 untill wings are over.
- use DS (Devine Storm) ONLY when there are adds/Doomfire out. Empowered you should use even if Archimonde is alone, and according to priority.
- When nothing else is off CD, you should really use Exorcism. Its better than not using it at all.
- i personally would dump the Exorcism Glyph, as its not needed, and the ranged ability will give you something to do when Archi is moved and you are far away.
- If you are not allready doing so, pop wings + Execution Sentance every minute. After four minutes it will be every 2 minutes.

Finally, if you do get picked to go inside the Nether, remind your raid leader that you are a Melee, and its better to send a ranged inside.
If you do get sent to the Nether any way, i advise you to use Long arm of the Law. It might help you with downtime.
