I did buy a 660 Ti, last month which i'm happy with. It wasn't the "best" choise though. I prefer Nvidia to Radeon.
They're better with updating their drivers, and makes it overall easier for customers, and i don't mind paying a few euro more for that.
They also work better for linux, which is something that matters to me, but radeon is best price/performance-wise for the time being, as far as i know.

    Darn. i can't post links.
    Go to
tomshardware.com and search for Best Graphics Cards For The Money: October 2012

This is a great place to get some good, trustworthy idea of what you want. I havn't even read it for this month, but they give the 2-3 best cards for all priceranges, varying from very low to the higherst and say what's best performancewise.
    Happy reading

He mentioned he mainly plays wow, suggesting a 7870 over a 660 is simply irresponsible and you should feel bad.

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=660

There is no wow benchmark, but scroll down to the starcraft bench and this is similar to what wow will be like.

Also, take notice of the numbers on all these benchmarks. When the 7870 wins its by a small amount, just a few fps. But in the nvidia wins it can be huge, like starcraft or BF3.

If WoW is the game you play more than anything else, you should not ever consider AMD products (CPU's included in this).

    No, just no.

Next time, I'd advise doing your research properly because clearly AMD cards scale considerably better in StarCraft 2 and Arkham City, and they perform better in Metro 2033 which is a heavy game to run performance wise, things you seem to believe are completely untrue when the results are right there. Also, AMD cards scale extremely well in SC2 in Crossfire, dual 7750's outperform a Sapphire Toxic 7970 which is a 6GB card on a single monitor.

I'd buy none of the above. What I would do is wait another month or two for the 8870. It'll be 20% cheaper and 25% faster. Just throwing this out there so you don't feel like you wasted your money when the new series is released.

If you want to operate on rumors, you will be waiting more than a month.

There's always new hardware coming that is faster and better.
If you always wait for that, you never get anything.

Ok Cheers for all the replys, can we stop the amd vs nvidia now please, i made up my mind and i'll be getting the gtx 660, reason: i have always been a amd gpu person, heard good things about nvidia and i want to give them a try + the benchmark results of the gtx in wow / other games i may play (Borderlands/skyrim etc) are good.

Now can anyone suggest a good model of the gtx 660?

For example i see Evga gtx 660 and Zotac gtx 660, never heard of them, as i have with Asus and such, any got a good recommendation of the model to use from experience.

If you are going to overclock it then it will actually matter, otherwise any model with multiple fans and a decent warranty should be fine. EVGA usually has a the best warranty at a price premium.

    Here's what I recommend:

If you haven't already overclock your cpu to 4.5Ghz.

Then, if you play mostly wow i'd go with the gtx 660 ti.

You don't have to uninstall the amd drivers but i would. There's no conflict between the amd and nvidia drivers. Also you don't need to uninstall the old nvidia drivers. Nvidia does that already each time u install the newer drivers.

Sorry to butt in, but am i missing something here? The "benchmark results of the gtx in wow / other games i may play (Borderlands/skyrim etc) are good." yet the 7870 is only just behind a 660ti at 1080p?

    tpucdn.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/images/wow_1920_1200.gif

So its faster than a 660 on the game you play the most? 79FPS vs 72FPS

The GTX 660 is an inferior card, you are basically flushing your money away. Also if you overclock, i don't know if you do or not, the GCN chips scale much better than that of kelpler, meaning you will get a much better overclock out of the AMD chip than that from an Nvidia one. Put it this way, a 7870 overclocked, is faster than a 7950!

Google 7870 Directcu ii review HARDOCP have a good one, where in a few games the overclocked ASUS card is only trailing a 670 by a few FPS.

    hardocp.com/article/2012/07/02/asus_radeon_hd_7870_directcu_ii_top_review/1

New egg have this card for $239.99 after rebate, the GTX660 directcu ii is $10 cheaper after rebate, when really it should be at least 30-40 dollars less for the performance you are getting.
