My English teacher said that The Hobbit (the book) had the worst writing he's ever seen in a published novel. Regardless of how good the book are (I've never read them) the movies were VERY good, even though The Hobbit (the movie) was a little odd and to me, lacking direction.

Most likely because it's written in the style of a story teller sitting you beside the fire and telling you it. I haven't seen many like that ever.

Hobbit book = Never read it.
