I think we got to play tennis a couple times during PE. I wish we would have played murrican football and street hockey a lot more during Weights & Conditioning, at least I was good at those.

The NRA is blaming video games and violent movies for the recent school shooting.

Allow me to say this simple statement. Fuck the NRA.

Fuck CNN as well, they're blaming video games as well.

Hell, imo, even though I support gun control, this massacre was not a gun problem (though it was a factor) or a video game problem (lol) but more of a societal problem as people with mental illnesses are told they are weak and it's taboo to get help and so they need to get attention, and sadly, the best way to do this is to kill a lot of people.

Wow. I cannot believe the stupidity here.

"Politicians passed laws for gun free school zones. They issued press releases about how effective they are, they post signs about them too. In doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimal risk. How have our nation's priorities gotten so far out of order. Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office building, power plants, courthouses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security. We care about our president so we protect him with armed secret service agents. Members of congress work in offices surrounded by armed police officers. Yet when it comes to our most beloved, innocent, and vulnerable members of the American family, we as a society leave them utterly defenseless. The monsters and predators of the world know it, and exploit it. THAT must change now."

So. The NRA believes that in order to prevent people from shooting others, they need to make guns more accessible. That makes no sense to me.

[e]: Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the gun control that goes on in the States is fully to blame, but it's more to blame than anything like video games or movies. If anything, I'd blame the way news is portrayed in NA is more at fault than they are.

I had a really long response to the gun control / mental health / video game subject, but that would lead me to sticking around to discuss this and my head feels like it's going to explode so I will simply say this.

Stricter gun control laws would have done nothing to prevent what happened.

Focusing more on mental health issues would have done nothing to prevent what happened.

There are sick people in this world. There will always be sick people in this world no matter how much money you put towards "the problem". Stuff like this is going to continue to happen and it isn't new to this planet. In medieval times times there were sick individuals who wiped out entire villages just because it was fun. This has happened all throughout history. We just didn't have 24 hour new stations and social media outlets to inform us of every single thing that is wrong in society, so it mostly went ignored.

Damnit, I still typed out more than I wanted to.

    Goodnight.

I understand where they're coming from, when stuff like this happens, they don't really have all that many arguments they can fall back to, and whether they believe in it or not, they will fight with those arguments as hard as they can to protect their guns.

What annoys me is how he refers to the shooters and criminals as "monsters and predators" when they're really just people who need(ed) help.

I own a gun. I have owned a gun for over 10 years now.

    I hate the NRA.

I understand what the NRA is doing here though. They are getting hammered by everyone right now, so they are trying to spin it so the attention isn't completely on them. It may not be the best way to do it, but they need to try and get the target off their backs (bad choice of words here, but screw it) anyway they can.

Imo, we don't need to throw lots of money at mental health issues, we just need to decrease the stigma behind it.

You are correct though, and I agree to an extent, but I still believe that we should do as much as we can to mitigate these situations.

Btw, by gun control I don't mean "lololol ban all guns" just put more regulation on it, and only allow individuals who are mentally stable and will be known to keep their guns in a safe and a LOCKED place to own some of the more powerful guns (like the gun used in the most recent shooting).

    Goodnight, Kray.

Can't that be said about every murderer and rapist? No sane, normal person would do those things, so in one way or another they are screwed up in the head. That doesn't make them any less of "monsters and predators" though.

I'm not saying this guy was or wasn't a monster. There is a lot we don't, and will never, know about him. My point still stands.

Bolded part was my point. It doesn't make them less of "monsters or predators" but if we could get people like this more help or otherwise decrease their ability to commit crimes, it would be a good thing.

From what I've read, which is a limited amount as I don't actually care about the shooting (I'm aware this makes me a terrible person) he seemed like a pretty normal guy who had some emotional and social issues which he was unable to cope with when he no longer had things like his tech club to fall back to.

Goodnight again for real this time, Kray.

Fling already said this, but I got distracted before I could respond.

That's what I thought it was, but my mother said it was more like soccer than American football and it confused me.

Nah, it means that you know how much your caring means in that situation. Pretty much all you can do is say "well, shit..." and move on.

I dunno, I was one of the only people in my class who thought it was bullshit that we were forced to have a moment of silence for ten minutes to "Pray for those who lost their lives".

Even as someone who is religious, I see that as bullshit, because if you really cared like that, you would have done it before anyways...

Also, the hell school do you go to that forces you to pray?

It's Utah, though this is the first year that religion has been a big thing in the school, for example, our musical this year was a religious musical, our new principal is an uber-Mormon, the x minutes of silence (I don't actually remember how long it was, ten minutes was an exaggeration) contained the word "pray".

This is the same school that gave me a police escort to the office when I flipped off the sub and left the classroom (without saying anything) nearly getting me arrested and expelled, so I think it's just the school being crazy.

Wow... I understand a suspension for that, but a fucking police escort?
