[Music] Punk and the many derivatives

i've been in the mood lately to find new music within my genre so i'm curious if anyone has some really good stuff out there

i like things along the lines of:

    Artist ~ Sub genre
    A Global Threat ~ Street
    Mischief Brew ~ Folk/Gypsy
    American Nightmare ~ Hardcore
    Guttermouth ~ Skate
    Zounds ~ 77/Psychedelic
    Disrupt ~ Crust
    No Cash ~ Ska/Thrash

please try to stay away from pop-punk bands... i.e Blink 182

    Check out Swedish Anticimex
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7zzqI0wUeY
Classic shit from early 80s. Their first singles and albums with Jonsson as a singer is the best stuff ever made and diffined the whole genre after Discharge. Haven't you heard Discharge, you should check out Why.

I like peacepunk like Crass, Conflict, A//politcal and DIRT to.

Re: Punk and the many derivatives

i appreciate the responses, i do have a lot of the bands listed (LOC/against me/misfits/refused/op ivy)

haha as for pennywise... i used to listen to them some until i really noticed the singer has an odd lisp, sooo now whenever i hear a song its all i hear... that and all the bands my friends played in while we were in high school played brohymn to death

i like the bands Anarchos and Raptorg suggested... gonna look more into them now

does ANYONE listen to folk/gypsy punk on here? i would love to hear of some good bands, a lot of the ones i've managed to find are normally garbage recordings or borderline emo on the lyrics/vocals.

lastly i'll throw a few more bands out there for anyone interested in some really good bands that are up and coming.

Murder Media ~ ska/thrash (easily becoming one of the best punk bands to come out of the southeast in a long time)
Big Attack! ~ dance punk (these guys are different, but in a really good way, i highly suggest seeing them live)
Evil Robot Us ~ folk punk (only wish they had more songs)

Re: Punk and the many derivatives

    If you want some albums...

    swedish stuff
    Anticimex - Raped Ass
Anticimex - Victims of a bombraid
Anticimex - Absolut Country of Sweden (my absolut favorite album ever made)
    Disarm - Dömd
    Absurd - Blodig Stad
    Totalitär - Sin egen motståndare

Defiance - No future no hope (so good) (american streetpunk)
Discharge - Why? (british classic, also check out varukers if you like it)
Crass - Tricky band with alot of strange releases. Stations of Crass is a favorite. So is feeding of the 5000. (peacepunk)
Conflict - Some collection works, just make sure "the serenade is dead" is one the songs (peacepunk)
Dirt - There is a great collection called black and white. Wicked female singer.
Health Hazard - Not just a nightmare (also a fucking awesome female singer)

Without being nationalistic (cause it sure aint punk hehe) I would say some of the best crust ever made was made in sweden in the early 80s. It's leg "wait for it" endary

WHy do we have to break everything down to subgenres I was under the impression punk was punk and we should leave it that way.

So people like you could complain about it, eventhough it doesn't affect you other than make you feel dumber because you can't tell the various subgenres from eachother.

    Mischief Brew
    Guignol ... instrumental, but awesome
Firewater ... not necessarily punk but it has some folk/gypsy elements to it

Re: Punk and the many derivatives

Early Green Day is quite good punk altho they have gone more pop-punk now, still all sounds good to me.
also Upcoming MCR album in May is supposed to be very punk.
