I remember, back in vanilla, as a hunter in raids, you would Feign Death in the middle of a fight to get that second of "Out of Combat" so you could sit and drink in shadowmelt for 6-7 seconds. That's how I kept my DPS up - I always nuked, then drank, then nuked. It worked :P
