I actually saw a philosophy lecture on youtube from Harvard (
They're insanely good if you feel bored) where the proffessor makes an analogy with colours and the human mind.
As he says, all colours have an opposite, something that makes them stand out. And he sees it as strange that the two 'non-colours' we have, black and white, works with themselves. And he uses this analogy to argue one of his points: Without evil in the act, the result won't feel good. Like "No pain, no gain", but with the human mind - If you're not stimulated towards negative emotions, you will not recognize happiness when you encounter it.
