    Motherboard and CPU

I currently have a ASUS F1A55-MLX motherboard and I really want to upgrade my CPU to an i5, but I don't know if it will support it?

If it doesnt could someone provide me with the cheapest motherboard that would run an i5. Also a power supply at the cheapest would be good too. I've had my computer running non stop for 2 months cause my PSU is fucked and my comp won't turn on as my PSU is going.

    Thanks guys!

It won't support it as that is an AMD board running an FM1 socket, you need a board running an lga 1155 socket (h77, z77 (h68 also I believe but don't quote me on that)).
If your looking at an i5 which variant in particular?
    i5-3570k
    i5-3470

The mobo which is most recommended for bang for your buck is an Asrock extreme 4 (au(dot)pcpartpicker(dot)com/part/asrock-motherboard-z77extreme4)

As for psu i'll leave that to others to answer, if you can post back with your system specs and country we can help you sort what you need further.

    Specs that would be helpful:
    intended cpu:
    gpu:
    current ram:

Cheapest you can go pretty much. 620W is total overkill for any single GPU setup but I don't know what GPU you are currently running and it is very cheap after rebate anyway.

$30 for an Antec 620w 80+ PSU is a bloody steal. If I needed an extra PSU, I'd probably just buy that right now. :P

n0cturnal's suggestions would work very well, though! You'd get the power of a current-gen i5 for not too much, but depending on your actual budget, you could maybe up to the K version and Z77 board, if you can give us an actual budget amount.

My current CPU is AMD athlon II X4 631
My current GPU: Nvidia Geforce 460 GTX
    I have 4096RAM

I went onto overclockers and was just planning to get the i5-2500 3.3GhZ sandybridge? Is the one nocturnal posted just as good? I hadn't looked anywhere for price checks etc.

So if I was to get those parts Nocturnal suggested would I need anything else then? And could someone tell me whether the new CPU intended is much better than my current?

    Thanks a lot

The 3470 is slightly better than a 2500 due to the improved IPC.

There is a small difference between the 630 and 631 but overall the comparison should show you an approximately correct performance increase.

Oh yeah much better! Will my current RAM be okay? And the PSU you suggested will run my gfx card yeah?

Also the stuff you linked me is in dollars will that be converted to pounds if I buy em straight from your links? Would love to know the conversion rate they give!

Oh well if you are buying in the UK you need another list, the prices won't be the same.

I thought so! Hopefully the prices will be roughly the same

I might buy them tomorrow aslong as you confirm that my RAM will be the same as I have and PSU will power both GPU and CPU

Would be the equivalent for UK. It is a slightly less powerful PSU but it is still more than enough to power your rig. The I5 with a GTX 460 should land around 300W usage at full load. If you plan on adding some more power hungry components in the future you can sep up to the 550W version but it cost £15 more.

And yes your RAM will be fine to use with the new motherboard and CPU.
