I would have reported too, mainly because it also works as ignore, for awhile. It takes 2-3 clicks to achieve. It's not like I would be writing an essay how my butt was hurt. I don't need to write a single word, and I wouldn't because I don't care that much. It appeared as an advertisement, and I don't care to see something like that in trade chat. I wouldn't know if you were serious or not, that's not the point. I'd rather see the chat as clean as possible. If you think there was emotion involved behind the ban, you are mistaken.
There is nothing else going on here other than the joke appeared to be an ad, which is not allowed. Nobody was offended here, other than maybe Blizzard.

they were probably just thinking: This asshole is talking about Rolex Watches in chat! REPORTED!
understandable
I hope you realize since the LFG channel back in Vanilla was taken out of the game, Trade Chat is the closest thing we have to it therefore it's the best way to mess about. I'll be honest, whenever I was in a city, fuck General Chat.
I think the big problem is that most of WoW's playerbase are mindless zombies now who have lost all humor, there is no community, there is no joking because everyone is an "adult". It's full of shit and that's probably right there why I don't play anymore, I play LoL and get people like that but it's expected as it is a competitive game. WoW was better when there was a community, people are dicks and that is apparent due to the nature of anonymity. Funny thing is back in the day our WoW character was kind of like a second life so to speak and you weren't fully anonymous, you had a server reputation to uphold and people understood jokes as long as they weren't about the fucking Holocaust.
People just need to take a step back, the OP was talking about a Rolex watch with diamonds encrusted in it. I mean come the fuck on, I feel like a smart person now and I'm average at best when it comes to intelligence.

Hey everyone
I'd gladly trade gold for your watch, are you on EU?
Well ofc it was a joke and no reason to give a ban.
Meanwhile in battlegrounds them bots be fighting eachother.
There's nothing constructive going on here. So closing.
