Woah woah wait a sec. People say that they hate the talent and then you say it isn't being forced on them, right? You then mention that they shouldn't force their opinion on other people but isn't that what you are doing as well?
People can both love the talent and hate the talent equally. Respecting that other people may hate it whereas you like it is key to finding a happy medium during the beta process. Personally I like the idea of my hunter as a pet class so I would dislike this talent. However I would rather have blizz fix pets in general and help with the AI rather than just going the easy route of sac'ing the pet etc.
It's not entirely about the AI though. Fixing pet pathing is great, but a lot of people just want to walk around as a badass lone ranger with a bow (edit: while being viable). They haven't said that they weren't going to fix pathing.
I just don't see why having more options is a bad thing. If they fix pet pathing AND include this talent, it's a win-win situation. Then you can just part ways and let other people enjoy the class as they envision it while you get to keep your pet..

So you have never heard of traps, concussive shot, or scatter shot? You don't need a pet. Do Fire mages need pets? Arcane mages? I think locks are doing okay without pets. I've been a hunter since vanilla and haven't always needed a pet to solo. Sometimes pets die. Do you just feign and run away? You use the tools you have and a pet is not the only tool in a hunters toolbox.
If you don't want to play petless Surv/MM, your options are
A] A shot that has travel time and an additional second before dealing any damage
B] A shot that gimps your mobility
I'm likely going to be forced into staying BM if the above two abilities aren't modified. I rolled a pet class. I want to play with my pet.
never said it was final but you make it sound like having a pet is a crutch. blizzard has imporved pet pathing and ai tremendously, its not perfect but alot better that how it was. I cant imagine doing stuff without my pet. but you are welcome to enjoy being ranger l3g0l@s.
Seeing how Blizzard clearly hate petless warlock play and how they nerfed it to the ground. I doubt this talent will be anywhere near mandatory.
I just hope it will be viable in PVE even if it will clearl be the worst talent by Blizzard will (was really ??? when I saw this talent @blizzcon actually, when you track GoSac history)
Doesn't bother me at all. As long as it isn't the best dps spec for hunters.
I honestly want to wait until the beta maybe even later. It looks good but let's not get too attached to it yet. They still have to balance it and flesh out the math for the other talents. Some people are gonna pick the defacto larger dps gain. I know I will go down this road but others may choose another one and that is their choice. So lets wait and see how this plays out before we start jumping the gun.
My hunter is low level, so I'm not going to vote in the poll.
However:
If hunter is meant to be viable as an archer, that should be a SPEC CHOICE like it is for DKs, not a talent, and definitely not a level 100 talent. Without it being a spec choice, it will be considered like the warlock one:
"We don't want to bribe you not to use the pet, so we had to tune it lower. Now it's a thing you use if we make a fight where pets are bugged absolutely to shit and are useless, but otherwise is a 10% dps loss on any normal fight. Enjoy your waste of a talent spot!"
I actually said to my friend that if they enable hunter's to play without pets I will reroll back to my hunter. It's not so much that I hate pets per say, but more of the issues with pathing and them being nuicanse (sp?) on some fights where you a) have to stop dps of all kinds, b) zone in somewhere where pet doesn't spawn/gets stuck and c) switching targets often. It's just not fun, at least not for me, having to micromanage it.
But on the other hand I'm glad they made it a talent because at least this way you can choose to have it or not have it (or so I say until we hear more about how other talents such as master's call is gonna affect it) and if the minor dps different between talents is not a huge issue it should be win/win for everyone who love/hate playing with pets.
My 2c. ^^
edit: Oh and when I do solo and such pets are lovely to control and try to min/max for doing something new and perfect your gameplay. Its just the end content where your performance affects all others and then you see your tiger getting one shot by some glitchy ability.
