The idea is that the talent shouldn't be as powerful or as direct as other gap closers. Seems to be a theme with developers and Paladins. So if you use it badly then you get bad results, but if you use it well then you'll get good results. Also 1v1 isn't how WoW was meant to be played, but if it's a Frost Mage you could swap places with it's pet, which is usually beside the Mage.
Shadow Priest, swap places with it's Psyfiend or other pet. Swap places with Warlock pet. You'd pretty much close the gap with nearly any ranged dps classes pet, with the exception of Hunters. But hey, you can't win them all.
It doesn't hurt to think outside of the box.
