Can someone explain me why does the subscription number matters ? And especially the fact that WoW's number are below Burning Crusade numbers ?
I don't know are you planning to choose to play or not to play based on sub numbers which is dependant on other people's action ? xD

Wow does not get paid monthly by asia player, nice try, though.

age of wushu is the KING OF MMORPGS

Wow is currently the top dog of the monthly sub market. I would supect it would still be top dog if you took away the Asian pay by the min subs but damn sure does not have 7 million int he west

Apparently having more subs means its instantly a better game, just like Justin Bieber is an amazing singer...

I guess by Blizzards own definition of 'Subscriber' you could say that Age of Wushu has 20 million subscribers.

Subscriber Definition: World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

Since that is the predominant method of playing online games in China and they don't pay a sub fee over there you could technically call them subscribers. Hooray for them!!

What still ceases to amaze me is whenever people freak out about Blizzard losing subscribers. It's like, oh damn guys we're down to EIGHT MILLION people playing our game. Guess we better just toss in the towel.

You can't just ignore the context of their previous sub level though. If everyone did that you'd have posts like "WoW loses more subs this quarter than every other MMO combined", and you could repeat that most every quarter and have it be true. So, it's probably best to mind the context is all I'm saying.

You know it is possible that it's more than one factor. Like it's not just because of MoP/Cata or just because of old age. Could be both! Could even be more reasons! Think about it.

If WoW subs drop below 8 million, how will Metzen afford another pool?

No but they don't need to and aren't trying to.

And I guarantee people will care about Skyrim for longer than a year.

I meant they could learn some things from them as far as keeping the world interesting and just some fun features in general. In all honestly, WoW really isn't that great a game. If they didn't have 5 expansions worth of content and a franchise legacy going for them they wouldn't be popular at all at this point. If WoW started at Cata and we were at MoP it'd be getting whooped by other MMOs.

EVE online is still growing (Launch 2003)

    you sir, just got owned.
Content drought is a combination of catchup mechanics and no new content.

I guess he'll have to.... sell his 4th private jet .

Well, he could always buy a smaller ship, those cruise ships of his are really filling up the bays in Irvine
