The main thing is most people won't care, nor will they actually want to know. I don't mean that disrespectfully, but a lot of people I've known to come out did it for attention, and it really angered me as anything we ever did, such as bench them for the night, or ask them to be quiet, was because they were Gay / Lesbian / Bi / Transgender.

As long as you don't turn this into Pity the G/L/B/T, then you'll be fine to come I (I can only guess), and if you're uncomfortable pretending, then even more reason to do it.

In my opinion you should just switch your voice already or you will end up laughing stock.

Once you change your voice they will ask or wont at that time you either tell the truth about being trans or you lie.

    Lies could be:
I was sick my throat was irritated
I made a bet with my friends i could pass for a guy online
I was scared of special treatment or sexist jokes and pretended to be a guy

If you assume yourself you would just say the truth and deal with consequence though. Good luck!

This post pretty much sums it up. Though I don't think your belief system has much to do with it, it's just sound advice overall.

OP: If it's a comfort thing however, as in if it's really uncomfortable for you to use your male voice with your guild, just tell them. If they're accepting (and people generally are after a period of shock.) then great, and if not, well, guilds are kind of a dime a dozen. The transfer fees for 11 characters are pretty high if it comes to that, yes, but your own comfort is worth more I would say.

Just have fun, if people can't handle you, they aren't worth your time.

Why is it relevant that you're an atheist?

If you pull your weight, people shouldn't give a shit. If they do, they're not worth putting up with. Ta~da.

Be yourself. If they have a problem with it, although it will hurt to be rejected and lose your raiding position, long term you are better off without them, and will find another guild who accept who you are. It's only going to drain you more and more as you feel you have to lie to people - and you shouldn't have to lie just to raid. Playing games is for fun and meant to be relaxing, if you can't relax and be yourself with this guild then is it really worth it?

If you want to go softly maybe just have a word with the guild leader / officers and let them know, hopefully if they are respectful people who actually like you, they will have your back if anyone else in the guild has an issue with it.

You'll probably get a few jokes at first but in my experience people in WoW are pretty open minded and accepting, just bear in mind it might be a bit of a shock at first - and if some people are suprised, they may think it is some kind of joke or not believe you, until they realise you're serious.

Really happy with the overwhelming positive response here. Probably gonna do as people said and just do my female voice in next raid and say I always was a woman (not a lie too XP) and say some bullshit about avoiding the "omg a girl" nonsense as was said.
Just say im comfortable enough with everyone to not hide hide being female.
And yeah I'm fine with any abuse or whatever could potentially blow up on server as 1. I doubt it'd be bad and 2. I've experienced much worse and it gave me resilience to anything bad 3. Fucking chasers are the only thing that'd cause me to relm transfer. haha

It's the year 2014 (basically), you decided for whatever reason that you want to be a tranny, clearly that's a huge thing to consider and think about before you do it...... And you're telling us you don't know how to tell people in your guild in the World of Warcraft?

I do have one curious question though... To most people the most terrorizing thing on the internet is accidently hitting the facebook/twitter share button on porn videos... Is yours accidently hitting video call in Skype?

We had a tense situation in my guild on this topic.

Thing was, nobody had an issue with said person identifying himself as a female. It's just that, it is easy for someone who is experimenting "feeling waters" to maybe want to push limits a bit to find out what they're comfortable doing in real life, where the stakes appear to be much higher.

Something to remember is to respect others, always, in real life and in the digital. If you wouldn't flirt with someone in real life, don't become pushy in-game. That applies to all genders, alignments, and propensities.

I had to remove that person from the guild for making too many people, including myself, uncomfortable. It's a compliment to have someone fall for you, even if you're not interested in them, but when you say no, it means no. Can't keep pushing.

I personally would go the route of not talking in vent. Just let an officer know. I think the elephant in the room here is how you sound as a woman. I'm not trying to be rude, but I have met a few transgendered people in my life, and their woman voice was different. You would be able to tell they were a man even if you didn't see them.

Tranny isn't the nicest word but whatever I can tell it wasn't intended in that way. Haha no I think im relatively passable even now so long as it's not too early and haven't done my makeup etc. haha

@Akren yeah that's not the type of person I am I'm very reserved so I wouldn't attention whore or anything over it all.

I work at a call centre and haven't been misgendered on my voice in well over 4months now so based on that I'd say its passable. I had professional voice training on it for a long time.

I wouldn't give a crap that someone is gay or whatever, it would make them more interesting to me.

Besides if these people you care so much about would turn away from you then it's not a community you belong to anyway.

But then I'm not exactly a social person and I'm quick and easy to bail on communities if I see something I kinda dislike about them. Even now I'm on the fence about whether or not should I leave my current guild after 2 months because the raid leader is kind of a douche in raids when people fail and this friday he was extra douchey, and also because the guild chat is empty most of the time even though there are over 15 people online and also because no one seems to taste my jokes unlike other guilds.

Why is the word "Tranny" a bad word to you? IT's the short form of Transsexual mind you and not Transgender, but it's purely a short formed word. Much like WoW for World of Warcraft or cig for cigarette etc etc.

I mean no offence, I just don't understand the mentality behind finding a short form word that isn't used in a derogatory sense as "bad" or "not nice". It very well could be due to me not having to be in your position and I understand that, however it does just seem strange to me.

As per your topic, just come out to them in the same way you'd pull off a bandaid. You just might be surprised how many people are willing to accept it. You never know, there might be some people in there dealing with their own problems (By that I mean troubles coming out or things of the like).

I do wish you the best of luck regardless!

Because its used in an offensive manner. Like many other shortened words.

Why not simply get a microphone that allows you to adjust the pitch/tone of your voice (or another program for that matter) it's not worth the hassle which may ensue from this revelation.

Yeah much like Paki is short for Pakstani. (Not rasict just an example)

It's the context it's used in mostly. Shemale is easiest the worst though. It emplys that you work in porn. I'm easy going if people say these words with ignorance but if they're used to offend then it's different. Dug my heel into someones foot who used it in an offencive manner.

And yeah to being supprised as to how positive people react I've seen that enough. It's amazing that most the hate you read about doesn't happen often. This thread is a great example of that as every response has been positive.

    This.

You don't need a microphone to change your voice or a fake boyfriend that you tell everyone about. Tell them the truth, if they don't like it, fuq em. End of.

    Good luck and Merry Christmas!
