    PSU required for this GPU?

Friend of mine went out and bought a new GPU. This GPU to be exact: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB OC
    http://www.austin.net.au/video-graph...-card-102.html

Now he is wondering if he needs a new PSU to support it. He was think of getting something like: http://www.austin.net.au/psu/850w-co...ply-80-pl.html

But I told him to hold off for a bit to check around. Is 850w too much here?

Reckons he will be buying from these guys that are wherw he got the other stuff. Do they have any good alternatives?

A decent 550w (XFX, Antec, Seasonic, etc) will do fine. 850w, especially that one, is too much, and too expensive.

Also: Ouch on Australian prices >.<

This is as strong as the one you linked but is AU$40 cheaper. EDIT: and the 650W version is still AU$25 cheaper.

The card really only needs about 200w, not 600w... plus system power.. will probably never break 400. A good 500-550 will work fine.
