I am trying it out now.

However I have some problem:

In FFXIV, I have turn off all non party combat announcement, however, when I use the parser, it still seems to show EVERYONE in the zone's damage!!!!!

I tested it out on Titan fight, it even show Titan and the Bomb's dps... (fun fact, Titan won the parse with 718 dps)

Any idea how to filter only show green names (party member on the parse are green)?

Plug-ins -> FFXIV Settings -> Parse Options -> Parse Filter -> Party/Alliance. For SMNs, you can check "Combine Pet with Owner."

And for the SMN with pet, even better!!!! As at the moment (done some Trial Roulette to test when I got it) I had to manually add the SMN and the pet dps to see actual XD

most parsers are bugged when it comes to dots are they not? because of how ffxiv calculates them (all dots on a target get hit for a lump sum every 3 seconds?)
or was that fixed? part of the reason i stopped bothering with parsers lol

I don't know if it's only dots, part of the reason I stopped using them is cause everyone would always get different results. I tested it with a few people with ACT and FFXIVAPP and at the of worst times the parse would be off by as much as 100 dps.

The dot should be included now, SMN dps is now very respectable on parse. ACT should be pretty accurate now as me and my FC mate both parse and we always have the same result now

Necroing this post. What is the latest status on the 'best' combat parser for the game? I think there is FFXIV-APP, Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT) and something else? I keep seeing rainbow mage popping up but that looks just to be an overlay for ACT? So what is everyone using mostly? What looks the best, etc?

ACT with Rainbow Mage overlay and custom made overlay style which can be found on rthe ffxiv subreddit.

Just remember, this still applies.

They're not technically "legal" to be using per Square's ToS, but so long as you're using them for yourself and not being a jerk about what you're seeing, they let it slide.

Not sure why he says it specifically, but I can say that FFXIV does feel designed differently than WoW.
Being top DPS isn't the focus at all. It's muscle memory and patterns along with reaction and mechanics. They don't have much in way of DPS checks.

Yeah when I start new classes in MMOs I like to be able to see meters. While I like to be able to see myself ranking on sites, etc, I am looking to more use it for training.

Double edged sword. It's also the best way to find out which strategies and openers are working best for you. It can be difficult to gauge at a glace whether it's better to delay combo abilities or interrupt them with dots etc. Can spend some time Googling the info amongst 30 page subreddits, or you can just get an overlay to display it and discover for yourself.

And yeah this is basically what I would be using it for. Additionally, since meters are a gray area and you can't use them for group kicks/bitching @ people, etc, it would be hard to be an elitist in a group I would think. I just like to see direct feedback/data on what I am doing; Did X just work, was it better to use XYZ abilities, in that order, with these CDs, etc. I just like to try and bring as much to a group as possible. We all know how much 1% wipes suck and I try as hard as I can to make sure I can make up that 1%.

EDIT: Once (if) SE brings addons to the game, which they are sorta working on as a side project it sounds, it will open up the floodgates for meters. I have never had a problem with them in MMOs, either giving or receiving criticism, outside of a static with the stated purpose of, "We are going to do X as hard as possible. If you can't do X then you can go X out of the Xing X group, X."
