Why are enh shamans so rare?

I see lots of elemental and resto shamans but it is pretty rare that I see any enhancement shaman. I am currently leveling a shaman (I love melee) and was just wondering if I made a mistake with this class.

I am 46 currently and I hate it so far. But I also hate leveling so that doesn't help. Not sure if it happened to shamans as well but with the prune Monks suck at a low levels now... SO boring. The only thing keeping me going with this shaman is all the cool stuff I get later.

Since getting fire nova it has become a little better. Before that I had lots of time where I was going nothing. Low level instances/questing makes using totems kind of sucky as well. Everything dies so fast that the GCD just to drop one is rough. Boss fights are much better for those.

I am really looking forward to the wolves. They look fun.

I have not played enhance since mid cata. But I felt like their rotation was so messy.

I'm really loving the new Flurry mechanic that enhance just got for WoD. Combine it with Glyph of Frost Shock, and you will always have something to hit.

Most likely the wisest Enhancement Shaman.

I prefer enhance over the other two specs by a big margin. It's a very involved spec with lots of little priorities to keep straight.
    Look! Words!

It's just the general ranged favor. More people were inclined to go resto or elemental because it was much, much easier to get in groups. With the new LFG tools and class design it's largely irrelevant.
Cairne wanted to thank him again, to offer encouragement, praise for a task so successfully completed. For being able to bear such burdens. But Saurfang was an orc, not a blood elf, and lavish compliments and effusion would not be welcomed or wanted.

I gotta be honest, Enh gets old. I briefly switched from Ele to Enh and was back to ele in no time. Enh doesn't have a flow to it, and blizz never gave it much attention. If you like melee Monks are way more fun imo. A very solid feeling spec. Enh just looks like your toon is spazzing out.

Might be some rose tinted glasses, but all in all, I enjoyed Enh-Mechanics with~3.1 the most. After they switched our interrupt from ES to windshear, I had only minor things to complain about. Okay, being fully responsible to buff and cleanse your group during BC could be fun (yes, there had been some encounters where it could've been wise from time to time to twist calming winds instead of agi in between the WF-buff). At least after they recognized the potential of enh and got us a working totem etc during the second half.

Nowadays it's still fun, but I miss the supportive powers somehow. Yeah, our healing had been maybe too strong, but using strong cooldowns always had been using meaningful cooldowns. To speak of cooldowns: I hated that they gave us so many "cooldowns", which on the other hand had been the cooldown-embodiment of the everlasting enh-problem: so many buttons, so little impact.

Nowadays I would be very happy if they would fix our AoE. If the stars align and the encounter presents us some longlifing adds, our AoE is fine. But usually a lot of adds have to die quickly - and with better gear, in the end almost every add will die quick. I hate the moment the pack dies the moment you finally managed to spread FS... dunno what had been wrong with AoE during 3.2. You place magma, you do AoE. They removed it because it made FN a part of our singletarget-rotation. And what? Had it been too hard to get the numbers right that searing together with searing flames would top out during single-target and magma with nova would top out during AoE?

In my opinion, it's simple, Ele and Resto have (had) almost the same gear, and Ele have some attractive perks (ranged, Chain lighting AOE damage, Lava Burst crits, Thunderstorm).
The question was almost "Why play Enh when the two other specs have so much synergy and get so much easier in a group ?"

Simply put. enhancement shamans are one the most fun classes in game. nerfs and shit be damned but that is how we are being played by the dedicated few

If you're having fun with it then continue playing it, because I personally find Enhancement to be the most engaging specialization in the game and yes, there are some quality of issues that need attention but overall it doesn't disappoint. As far as negatives go though, the only thing I hated most about it is that I was almost always forced to play Elemental if I wanted to do Rated Battleground's or Challenge Modes. Let's just hope that's not the case in Warlords.

    1. Dps shamans suck at pvp. A lot of people are influenced by a class or spec's viability in pvp, even if they intend to focus on pve.
    2. Enh shamans have a lot of keys. This turns a lot of people away.

Elemental is easy to play and shows big numbers, and can wreck faces in bgs simply because being ranged they don't get a lot of attention in a crowd.

In my guild there are 4 enh, 2 resto and 1 ele fighting for spots in mythic raid so i wouldn't say enh are rare species
