Well that depends, I mean TF2 (which this game is compared to often) has had the same 9 classes since launch.

Only thing TF2's added since launch is weapons, a map-style, and enough hats to rainproof a hydra.

Depends on how long the beta goes on for. Look at how many heroes they've already added to Heroes of the Storm, and that's not even going into closed beta until January.

There are a few other characters in the cinematic, too, and the kid names some of them (Soundquake? Fusionator? Doomfist?) while talking about his favorites.

On the map subject. I hope Blizz allows for map customization in Overwatch. One of my favorite things in TF2 is custom maps. Some of them are really fun to just derp around on.

I think it'd be a safe bet to assume they have several other characters in various stages of development. There are probably other characters who are just as polished as those featured in the reveal but are being saved for announcement at a later date as they trickle out information. The white guy with the green sword and the cowboy are in several different pieces of art so I'd expect them to be some of the first we learn more about.

True. I'm fond of the maps that reference other games, like that one Payload map based on Minecraft.

I see more than 3 extra characters in the big picture. Cowboy guy, female robot and guy in armor with guns just stand out, but there are tons in the background.

It looks more like a 1st person MOBA than a TF, with how many heroes it has.
