What are your thoughts on Jonathan Gruber's statement?

Isn't successful gazetting of any legislation reliant on the stupidity of the average voter?

If this guy was smart, he wouldnt be publicly bragging about how he tricked stupid Americans. This guy is clearly a moron.

He probably has his teaching tenure and as thus, doesn't have to worry about losing his job.

Teaching tenure doesn't protect you completely if you go from antagonizing students and other professors to more PR related problems. There's a lot of gray area between having and not having a job.

Yeah, but if he believes that these types of laws are good, and wants more "good laws" passed, then he has got to be a complete idiot to go around publicly bragging that he tricked stupid Americans into supporting this law.

Very true. Surely there are other "good causes" that this man believes in? Any future bills that he writes up will be much harder to pass now that he has made this revelation.

What's stupid is people seeing statements like this, twisting them around, and still trying to make it so we continue to have our terrible healthcare system. The US ranks very close to the bottom of developed nations in healthcare in terms of overall health of the population. The only thing our system has going for it is our research, which is also rapidly declining based on NIH funding.

What really needs to happen is total government takeover of the healthcare system, but this will never pass in this country due to the fearmongers who take their inspiration from the 1950's McCarthyism. In reality, healthcare does not work according to free market laws, so we shouldn't try to fit it into a free market.

Not just bills he writes. This morons public bragging is going to make life harder for anyone from his political side. I would not be surprised if, behind the scenes, this guy was somehow insulted or "cast out" of the inner circle of President Obama, and this is his way to get revenge.

There are other threads to discuss the health care bill, don't try to change the topic. You can easily do a search and find the obamacare thread if you want to argue about that

I'll show that asshole! by making a completely valid point as to why I wrote the bill that way.

Being valid does not make it a good idea to publicly brag about it.

what I watched was an explanation. he's trying to justify why he wrote it in that way. this talk of bragging sounds like some sort of projection to me.

Why? They all do it. Generally smart people know this and don't fall for it.

People who write bills do not all go out and publicly brag that they wrote the bill to "trick stupid Americans into voting for it" This guy is either a moron, or something happened between him and the Obama regime, and he is doing this to spite them.

There is no good reason to do what this guy is doing.

As I said in the other thread....

Considering how many people think the ACA and Obamacare are two different things and "socialism is evil!!!" he has a point.
It is sad that our politicians have to lie to us to do what's best for us.
