People eventually move on. My high school crush - who I was certain was gay - turned out to marry a woman and get deeply involved in his church. To be fair, though, my counselor at high school kept insisting I should ask him out. At the time, even though I was very out (in the 90's in a catholic high school), I was far too afraid to ask him. I regret it even to this day, wondering if I had said something, maybe he'd have embraced a different side of himself. Marrying a woman doesn't mean he wasn't bi or even secretly gay.
But the cake, to me, is this awesome sign I saw last summer on a pole near my haircut place:
