I feel like fan service is a thing Americans seem to dislike more than most other countries. Atleast where I'm from, nudity isn't seen as a bad thing.

The only time I would label it porn is if the scene or whatever sex and nude portions don't directly go towards telling an actual story. Nudity and sex are fine, but I don't like when it is put in a show or movie, because the writer or directors did a shit job making it.

i wouldn't say sleazy so much as lazy. it's fine if it's a perk to the show but if it's like certain shows and it's what the show relies on to retain viewers....than as a creator of content you have utterly failed to make a show or product worth watching. it's why i didn't like the man show. there has to be more to a show or product than just fanservice. at that point you might as well just label the show softcore porn.

People can complain about what they perceive as flaws.
We dont talk about shows that are explicitly fanservice (thats okay, we can and want to avoid these).
I think he mostly refers to shows who actually HAVE a story and a somehwat "serious" setting but just cram fanservice just for the sake of it.
