    Question New RAM question

    Hi o/
    I have been reading a lot about ram today, but couldn't find my answer to this specific problem:

    __________________________________________________________________________________________ ___
    I have 2x 2GB ram at the moment, installed in socket 1+3 (for dual channel, as far as I know)

    I want to buy 2x 4GB

    When I get my new 2x 4GB, should I remove my old 2x 2GB or just install new ones in socket 2+4?

    My system doesn't support triple or quad channel... so what will happen if I just install new 2x 4GB in 2+4? - will they all run dual channel or only the old ones or only the new ones or or? Sorry I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________

    Hope you can help! Thanks beforehand

    P.S. This is my motherboard: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4...pecifications/

    Should I stick to 1333MHz or can I go for 1600MHz? Not sure as I says "4 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1600/1333/..." , but later it says "With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz."

    Just put them all in. (1) 2gb (2) 4gb (3) 2gb (4) 4gb

    95% chance it'll just work.

    It will downclock the 1600 chips to 1333, but that's not really a big deal. It may not work in dual channel either, but again... That hasn't been a performance issue for a decade.

    If it doesn't work (doesn't boot, or doesn't detect one set or the other), remove the 2gb sticks.

    I put in the new ram today, and it works just fine ---> ( (1) 2gb (2) 4gb (3) 2gb (4) 4gb ), and I now have a total of 12gb

    Thanks again!
