They are not what I want to hear? Are you confused? I am a PC gamer. I do not own any current consoles and the last curent one I bought was a PS3 so I could play some exclusive titles. That was quite a few years ago and I did not consider it until I had both my and my wife's PCs where I wanted them at. Personally, I could care less if consoles die or not. If anything I kinda wish they would as they really hold back game development.
As for things dying, there are still even MUDs up and running and active. Ultima Online is still up and running and active. These games do not die. They continue to make money and push out updates. Never said I wanted to play them, just they are not dead. Just because it's not something YOU want to play, does not mean there are not people out there that DO and that the game is DEAD. Get over yourself, not everyone has the same exact tastes as you do.
It's a grey area. They really don't like you doing it, but at the same time they'd look like jerks if they did police it. Microsoft did try to prevent you from sharing your games with friends with Xbox One, before the internet lost its collective mind and Microsoft had no choice to undo those changes. Cable companies at one point wanted to charge per person watching, by putting a camera in the room. Or was it by DVD? That info I can't find, but I do remember the story from years ago.
Remember at one point making a music CD was considered piracy, but to the average Joe Six Pack it wasn't.
I get it, a dead platform is 0 players to you. Even Halo 2 still had people playing the game online until Microsoft shut down the servers. But consoles are not games where they can survive indefinitely if there's a community for it. If too few people are purchasing them, they will be dropped by developers and even the company that created them. WoW can survive indefinitely because there are people who just won't leave the game, and a lot of those people are whales so they're willing to pay up their nose to continue playing the game. A better phrase for that is zombie game, like Ultima Online and EQ. Still alive, but barely.
At this point we're playing with semantics. But rather than saying that Ultima Online has 21,000 active players in the game, I'll just go with the phrase dead.
The whole PC vs console thing is cringe, especially the whole "pc master race" circle jerk
But that's not the definition of dead. Sure, it may only have 21,000 active players, but it HAS active players, that means it's alive, the opposite of dead. It's pretty simple really, if it's still alive, it's not dead. Do we call old people living in nursing homes that we know are going to die in the next 2-5 years dead? No, because they are still alive. Now sure, UO is not thriving or anything, it's basically on life support, but that is not the same thing as dead. It's still alive and still makes money as well.
Really just trying to help you out here. This is why people are always at odds with you. You use your own definition of words, therefore, it is difficult to communicate, especially in text only.
Never understood why people care so much what others play on? Consoles aren't expensive and offer a easy to use couch playing experience. Some people don't understand that most people want something simple and easy to use and not have to really maintain it. Most people still don't even know how to use their computers properly let alone take care of them so are you surprised people go towards what a console has to offer? Personally I game on PC most of the time but I own all the current gen consoles and a lot of previous gen consoles. I don't restrict myself to one platform as each one has something to offer.
I also understand that when it comes to a computer most users can hardly handle operating Windows let alone building a machine and maintaining it over time, dealing with driver issues or software conflicts. Either way play what you want who the fuck cares what someone claims to be better.
Interesting bit of news that applies to this subject. Lorne Lanning the creator of Oddworld thinks there won't be a PS5.
While you guys are whining and bitching to each other I'll be happily playing on my PC or PS4. Don't hate, just play and enjoy this form of entertainment.
so if I...
- buy an xbox one
- buy 10 games
- have XBL for lifespan of console (~5yrs)
...I still come out at under $1,500 and are able to play every new release every year after console launch. For PC I would need to spend $1999-$2499 just for the rig at launch then upgrade again in 2yrs (drop another $1000) to keep up with the tech. If i wanted to match the xb1 with a budget build is still $1200 up front then $600+ 2yrs later.
pc gaming is cheaper?
also why is subbing for an MMO okay and subbing for XBL/PSN not?
You do realize that you only need to upgrade if you want better performance or image quality right? You could use the same PC and match the console, you don't have to upgrade just because something faster or etc is available. If you prefer more power though it is certainly available.
MMO subscription is different than a console service subscription obviously. An MMO subscription is required to play said MMO, a console service subscription is not required to use the console. For most however, they want to utilize those online features so they choose to pay it. Definitely can factor into the cost of the console if you want that feature. There are also MMOS that require a subscription on console as well though.
You don't need to spend 2 grand on a PC to have a comparible experience. It's all about your preferences.
The chart that was created appears to be made as bait and nothing more, there are far more variables than the original post covers.

Nobody sane spends $2k+ on a gaming PC. A good $600-$700 will get you a good gaming PC, and I even have a build that would out do a PS4 for $500. Also remember that nobody gets a gaming PC just to play games. It obviously does a lot of other stuff, like word processing, printing, web browsing, porn, and etc.
The cost between a PC vs console is most likely going to favor the console. Because the low entry cost is what people look for. A PS4 is $350 and that's the right price for lots of people. When the PS4 Neo is released, it'll likely cost $500, and not as many people will buy it. Most people will buy one game, and will play one months worth of XBL or PSO before getting bored of it. At one point the PS3 was $500-$600 and was the most powerful gaming machine of it's time. The price hurt its sales.
But on PC when you're bored of a game, the PC does have other functions. Or you could just download DOTA2 and play a game for free. There's also tons of free flash games online, which I'm sure will make some here cringe. The only way to make PC cheaper than console is if you buy a lot of games. Or you visit Humble Bundle and pay $10 for 10 games. As well as avoid games with subscriptions like WoW. Cause as it is, new releases of any AAA game on PC or console is $60.
