    [Movie] Meg[alodon] - Deep Terror.

While I love the Jurassic Park/World franchise, and it was fun to see the Mosasaur in JW, I have for years wanted to see a movie focused mainly on sea monsters.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4779682/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
Estimated budget, same as Jurassic world and Jason Statham has been in recent years in better paid movies, not B-movies anymore..so there is hope here?

Jason Statham to Fight Giant Prehistoric Shark in Aquatic Thriller Meg - GS News Update.

    GameSpot
    Apr 15, 2016

It has been reported that Statham has signed on to topline the long-in-development giant shark thriller Meg.
Movie will be based on this book, has anyone here read it? Anyways listen to this first chapter...amazing..

Meg A Novel Of Deep Terror Part 1.

    Jack Ridger
    Aug 27, 2012

    By Steve Alten

In a top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean's deepest canyon, Jonas Taylor found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom. The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he's sure he saw but still can't prove exists -- Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. The average prehistoric Meg weighs in at twenty tons and could tear apart a Tyrannosaurus rex in seconds. Written off as a crackpot, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Taylor refuses to forget the depths that nearly cost him his life. With a Ph.D. in paleontology under his belt, Taylor spends years theorizing, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg still feeds at the deepest levels of the sea. But it takes an old friend in need to get him to return to the water, and a hotshot female submarine pilot to dare him back into a high-tech miniature sub. Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he's never imagined, and what he finds could turn the tides bloody red until the end of time.
    This is Megalodon mouth...

Megalodon teeth compared to great white

    size

if movie comes out during the summer, the danger to it could be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which could have some large sea monster (has had a Kraken already).

I've actually been thinking about checking out the book. I'm a fan of Peter Benchley's sea/monster adventure stories, but I've read all them, kinda wanting to read something else in that vein and so this book might work for me.

As for the movie, hey, I like Statham, so works for me.

    Has some fans
Heard that Megalodon isn't related to the great white, so they could have some artistic freedom with this

I actually finished the book yesterday. It's not a work of deep(no pun intended) literature, it's a book about a huge fucking shark coming from way down deep in the Marianas Trench(with a pseudo-scientific explanation about why it happened now and never happened before), then wreaking havoc on boats and sea life and occasional swimmers. That description should really be all you need to know about whether you'll like the book or not. If you like that kinda stuff, as I do, it's a fun read, I'll check out the next book in the series once I've caught up on all my comic reading.

As for Statham, I guess when you've kicked the asses of everyone you can on land, what choice do you have but to dive into the ocean and go after giant sharks? Not sure if he's a good choice for the protagonist or not...he actually strikes me as more "macho/manly" than the guy in the book. BUT, the dude in the book is SUPPOSED to be all macho and manly, he's the best deep sea submersible pilot in the world, a Navy vet, bangs at least 2 hot babes, but then other times he can be kinda whiny, has a lot of night terrors, gets claustrophobic...I can imagine Stath doing the first half, but not sure about the second.

Is this a Jaws reboot? It's not horrifying when you can bomb it or just not swim there.

Well, since Megalodons are about fifteen times the size of a great white shark...it's a bit more difficult to just bomb it or not swim there.

Well no, that doesn't make it more difficult to do either of those!

If it's bigger, it's a bigger target to hit with a bomb.
To not swim there, well that's as easy as just not swimming or choosing a freshwater location.

And all of those things would make for a pretty boring movie, don't you think? It's a movie. Movies never make sense!

Agreed. It needs to be a bombproof shark capable of fresh and salt water traversal, and maybe even land capabilities

Also time travel. And it should shoot lasers.

    I love shark movies.

There's something inherently terrifying about the sea and the monsters beneath the waves.

I haven't seen anything to give my first impression about this, but a good shark movie would be awesome. The last shark movie I saw was Deep Blue Sea, and it was incredibly cringe-worthy.
The Shallows is a decent shark movie.

Well to be fair only the first two Jaws movies were actually scary (at least they were as a kid) and Deep Blue Sea wasnt that bad either... But as far as Shark movies go I cannot name some really good ones outside of those I mentioned.

In the book, the megalodon, being the (possibly) last of a prehistoric animal breed that was believed to be extinct, actually gets put on the endangered/protected species list, making it illegal for the military to just go in and bomb it(they had earlier attempted to go after it with a submarine, but the attempt was unsuccessful).

Huh, I might listen to the book on tape in the OP then today.

    Works for me.

It's not like most other shark movies haven't leaned pretty heavily on eye candy though either. IMO it's just part of the subgenre and doesn't do any harm.

The three B's of shark movies - beaches, babes, and bigass-fucking-sharks

Oh so there is this modest faux-cest element to it? Some of folks on these forums might be into it.

But, really, boobs are like bacon. Everything is better with bacon.

If you have a good shark movie, that's great. If it has boobs in it, it's better!
