People who have played something are not the same thing as a "playerbase". Playerbase would be people who are currently playing, and people who have invested enough time in the game that they are very likely to return.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean that directed specifically at you, but at all of the people who keep saying these numbers are "Playerbase" when that is just not true. I think you could safely assume that around 1 Billion people have played Tetris in one form or another, that doesn't mean that Tetris has a 1 Billion person playerbase.

It's looking/sounding like a really good film, I know I'll enjoy it but I'm fairly sure it won't get top 200.
It's going to be an uphill battle, but it does have a staggered release, which will allow reviews and word of mouth to spread before its US release.
World of Warcraft will pass 600 million usd rather easily.
Thinking about how vast the playerbase is, even 20% would be enough to achieve that.
Not to mention a free license + month of game time (+- 30eur/30usd value), is pretty much going to make that ticket free.
https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms...1794353828.jpg Should remember this infographic from 2014. It's probably around 115 million wow accounts created, which is absolute massive and probably bigger than the entire star wars and star trek fanbase combined.

lets put it like this.
wow had at peak 12.5m Subscribers (give or take)
thats 12.5m accounts aka people playing wow.
now lets take a look at how long Warcraft has been out.....
do not tie the movie into the MMO as the movie is based around the first game:
Warcraft - Orcs & Humans
the Warcraft Movie, is name "The Beginning", for a reason.
it goes back to the roots of Warcraft. Not World of Warcraft. stop lopping them together people. they ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
World of Warcraft didnt start at "Orcs and Humans" it start after thhe "Frozen Throne Warcraft 3 expac".
now onto my point.
people who played warcraft and didnt play the MMO will see it. i guarantee a lot more people have played the actual RTS games than they have the MMO.

Should make quite a few sales.
Myself alone I play WoW but my circle of friends where I live don't, yet we are all going to see it. So that is 1 fan and 6 people that don't play buying tickets to see the movie.
Very anecdotal but if only each person who had played Warcraft at some point in their life(since it doesn't even have to be WoW players, people who played the RTS' will count as well.) took 1 friend who hadn't it would easily get in top 200.

Lolwut? Niche? I would say more people have played a Warcraft game than people who actually read Guardian of the Galaxy comics or even most Marvel comics in general before the MCU came out.
Warcraft is huge in Media, it is nowhere near "niche"
Which is also irrelevant, since we also have no idea what percentage of those people will see the movie at all. I got in to Warcraft when WCIII came out. Been playing WoW since 1.4. I have no interest in going to see this movie, it's just not doing it for me, let alone bringing a friend.
Am I considered the average movie-goer when it comes to LotR (example) since I had no history of books or anything like that and simply watched the first one because the previews made it look good and then watched all the rest after that?
Let's be a little honest here and say the "average" movie-goer chooses to see a movie because of the preview and whether or not it looks good.
100 million people have at least made a starter account is what that means.
So the free to play level 20 thing. Which includes people who were probably just bored one weekend.
Either way, it will definitely do well enough, no doubt. The real question is whether it will actually be good or not.
And I don't think it will break the top 200 personally.
I never understand the hate for Cars. Maybe Cars 2, but eh.
Also, Cars was made by Disney. I think it's reasonably safe to say Disney is a larger name than Warcraft.

I think the movie will definitely be successful. Won't be winning any 'best movie of all time' lists because those lists are written by artsy farty arseholes who don't like anything fun.
Me not that kind of Orc!
Considering how bad its marketing has been, probably not. Atleast in my country it seems like the movie will stealth its way into the cinemas, only WoW fans actually know this movie is coming. Its IP is still a huge name though, so my vote would go to a maybe.
I agree with this. I'm not sure of any other releases on that date however. If it's the only movie being released that date, then it should indeed do very well.
As for it being any good...Production value-wise it looks promising, however..*flips a coin*
That's a gross understatement.
I don't know many that are aware of this movie beyond the internet gaming crowd.
But everyone knows comic books!
