All this means is placements mean nothing and should just be gone. Maybe leave them for people who haven't played competitive yet, but for those of us who have, why bother with it? Yay! Look at me, 10 games done that have no bearing on anything. Why not just start you off slightly lower than where you were last season and go on?
4-6, got placed at 990, despite the fact that I've steadily improved since the first season I played (3 seasons ago?) where I initially placed at just under 2k. Blizz's placement system is fucking retarded. But hey, at least I got 65 comp points for the season! Why do I even play this shit show of a game?
6-4 placements, wasn't sure how well they went, then placed at 2344 which is 30SR higher than I ended last season so I'm pretty pleased with that. Very average, Plat seems quite attainable from there I think.
Also bought Zen's skin, then Reaper's dropped in the very next box so have a full set of Halloween stuff too. Not a bad evening.
So far so good with playing no support this season. All placement matches and the 3-4 games since I've got a total of 5 minutes on Zen. Even though he's support, I'm okay with a little time on him as I can still play him as a damage dealer, just need a bit more awareness of your own team than normal.
The games I've played have helped me quite a bit with playing damage, as I take it more serious than QP and I typically use QP for messing around and playing heroes I would never step foot into comp with.
1 of the games out 2 support were Zen and Lucio, team member starts demanding we have a Mercy, we need a Mercy, GUYS WE HAVE TO HAVE MERCY!!! I get it, she's in a very good spot and borderline necessary to pick at some ranks, but when you demand that someone play a character that they have barely ever touched, it's almost as bad as not even having her, especially when you consider that the 2 support had over 50 hours on their 1st picks of Lucio and Zen vs almost none on Mercy.
It's whatever, just hoping to keep my slow gains going thru this season like I had last season.
During one of my Deathmatch games, I encountered a Rein. I was so impressed that I swapped to Rein as well and we supported each other...Until we both encountered a Mercy. We ended up protecting the Mercy from fire and allow her to win. Bodyguards !
Everyone laughed at the end. Fun time.

And yet extremly true. There are now countless of video showing the full soloQ progress of people on youtube from 0 to GM on fresh accounts. That's just a proven fact, if you're good you'll climb.
Sure it won't be a super smooth ride. But you'll climb, no doubt. When you comme close to your level is when it will be harder, that's how the SR system works. But all the baddies stuck in gold and crying "I deserve so much better, I'm stuck in SR hell". Nope you aren't stuck. You're pretty much where you belong. Don't expect to reach paradise when you're done of high gold and reach low plat. It's just the same.
And I'm not even that good at this game. I'm playing in diamond for 3 seasons now. Sure maybe if the matchmaking was better, maybe I could "climb" to master ? Or maybe not. But would that really change anything ? Would I suddenly stop having random one-trick widow poping in my games thinking they are Kephri when they barely hit 3 headshots in a round ? (meant to be a fun exemple, not every widow are bad thank god, and not every thrower are playing widow)
Just saying that placement IMO isn't that bad. Not saying that comp can't be improved.
I quite like the idea of pre choosing 2 roles when queing in comp. Choose main role, choose secondary role. And try to match teams so that both side have 2 of each roles as main and balance secondary roles too (but maybe not to a strict 2/2/2 to keep queue time low).
Don't block hero picks, as you may need to triple tank or triple DPS, or stagger pick during the game or playing solo healer. But make a reportable offense when people purposely don't pick what they first choose as an obvious troll pick (ge : instant picking Hanzo without saying a thing while queuing as support) and ACT ON REPORTED PLAYERS (and not only for this specific case)
I don't really want a "blizzard fixed" meta. But IMO trying to smooth team strenght isn't a bad move.
I would also be really curious about how the game could react to a "hero ban" phase (one sided ban, you only ban it for the ennemy team). But that's on a whole different level.
Went 5-5, placed in plat. Theory has proven true every season. If you get to plat and want to start at plat next season, just stop playing. Ended the season in plat after a fucking nightmare roller coaster shitshow, decided to stop playing. I think I could have lost all 10 games and still been placed in plat.

9-1 with most of the time burning as rein and got only 1670 (~100 points higher than season ending)

first game after placement matches and got the first leaver after the first round (which we lost)...
Played the game for 4 seasons. Everytime I end up around 2200-2350 rating. No matter if I lose 10 matches or win 10 matches. So I really dont get the need to do placement matches if the game puts me in the same rating. Waste of god damn time.
Since im in gold league, its REALLY hard to get out and up from it. I usually wait until everyone else has picked and then I choose either a tank or healer, since thats whats needed most of the time.
But now, at the start of this season im getting SO frustrated with this game, or maybe more the general IQ of the players. I am the kind of player who picks tank/Healer and think about team comp & team play. What is my reward? Bad dps, people who bitch, moan and are toxic towards the tanks/Healers while doing nothing to contribute. I have that shield up for the team season after season, while getting shit tossed at me and losing matches.
and if I ever try to play a dps hero, im forced to change into rein just cause no one else wants to tank.
Also, most matches there is always atleast one widow or hanzo, or maybe both. Heroes that can be useful if the player is REALLY good, but thats rare in gold league. Zero though about team comp is given.
The game itself is great, but this is one of the few games that actually makes me angry. I love Overwatch, the heroes, stories and gameplay.
But im actually thinking about never playing this game again.
1. placement match. Oasis. (last season was diamond)
I took the tank. rest of picks. Zenyatta - Tracer - Hanzo - Symmetra - Sombra. They couldn't communicate.
Zen switched to Torb after 1 min. We were 5 DPS and one tank (me)
After we lost 1 round I took Mercy. No switches in a team. We manage to win because of my switch.
I wish those guys have lost but I would have to lose with them.
How can people not realize they just can't play only one main hero all the time in competitive. You play competitive to win and if you want to win you have to play more heroes and switch them how they are needed.
These "One main" people can stay in the quick match.
Also in the diamond bracket. You are supposed to know more than just 2-3 heroes. You should not be in diamond if you play just one hero. Not even in plat.

Yeah I agree. I have heroes in every part(Dps, support, tank, healer). I take whatever the team needs. I just wish more people would do this.
After 4 seasons I have almost given up. Blizzard made a good game, but im about to leave it and never play it again. Would not even recommend anyone else to bother with this game.
well you can still play arcade and quick match
and idk why but the games there are better than in ranked matches...
Entirely stopped playing, not even the holidays could get me back longer than 3 games.
I played it during Alpha/Beta a lot, after release too - it lost it's charm for me (except for the chars. Gods, I just love 'em so I still buy figurines and stuff ^^)
