As fats go, lard is actually one of the healthier and better ones to cook with. You generally won't find it in most grocery stores, as it carries a stigma still from the days where we thought all fat = cholesterol and all cholesterol = horrible for you. You should still be able to get it from specialty meat shops.

I have a butcher that saves me pig fat, which I routinely then render down in a slow cooker/crock pot and save to jars. Lard is AMAZING to bake with.

Not sure why I'd eat pure fat. I could use that calorie allowance on pizza instead.

Lard is much better than many alternatives, I would rather fry in lard (pig fat) than those other oils that seem to have a shelf life of several years.

I like to roast potatoes in lard, that's all I've used it for.

I'm not opposed to fat, I'd just much rather eat a lot of something that tastes great as opposed to eating the same amount of calories condensed into a block of pure fat.

If you can eat a block of lard without puking then you have an iron gut.

Considering we cooked everything in lard up until about the 90s, yes. EVERYTHING tasted better back then.
