So I've seen this idea tossed around lately, wanted to see everyone's thoughts on it. Maybe we got lucky with Trump.

Explanation. The base that voted for Trump wasn't going to suddenly go away. Both house and the senate would have been controlled by the GoP. If Hilary won, the obvioua colussion (including GoP leadership such as Ryan) would have kept up with their dirty deeds while blocking anything from happening (more obstruction as they have been for years now). That would cause their base to grow more rabid since nothing would get done and they could potentially run another russian stooge but only this time they could be competent. Perhaps with Trump's insane stupidity we got lucky, because it is showing what the current GoP really is and threatens to being them down. True conservatives can try to take back their party, and we can try to get back to a working government that actually makes compromises.

Or maybe I'm being too hopeful in all of this.

I have thought about this myself. There is some good to having this colossal orange fuckwit becoming POTUS. He will be the death of the GOP as is, and likely fracture the Republican party that has shown it views party over country. Young voters are more Interested and knowledgeable about politics now more then ever. That's just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

As long as he doesn't cause too much long-term damage. I was musing a little while back that this could end up being good for Democrats (and the country) in the medium to long run: instead of an obstruction, scandal, and controversy-mired Clinton presidency, they get to wash off the stench, and come back ready to be a better government.
