What was the first game that impressed you in terms of graphics?

Graphics for me don't make a game good and growing up as a kid starting from the early days of the PS1, graphics didn't really phase me, I was more into the gameplay, but I remember the day my friend got a ps3 and bought the game Resistance Fall of Man and I was completely blown away by the graphics.

The models were very good, the fire effects looked so realisitc and I remember the beginning of the game just making me speechless. I instantly wanted a ps3.

Of course, today it looks outdated but to give it credit, this game came out over 10 years ago!

So, what was your first game that impressed you in terms of graphics?

Final Fantasy X, but FF9 had one of the most impressive FMV's I had ever seen up until that point. Especially for a PS1 game (Bahamut vs Alexander).

I never really cared about graphics either. Going back and playing older games I've never played is difficult now, though. I had to drag myself through Xenogears, even though I did like the story. Still need to do Chrono Trigger, at some point...

When I was younger, I was really impressed by the PS2/Gamecube generation. I thought Pikmin had some really good graphics on the Gamecube and Armored Core 2 had amazing cinematics

Probably Unreal Tournament, it still holds up well today, despite the fact that it's nearing 20 years old.

I was about 8 or 9, just rode my bike to a friends house, he was playing Warcraft 1 that just released not long ago and a few conjurors were casting rain of fire. Had to pick up my chin from the table so I could start yelling "which game is this?" and pestering him to copy it to a floppy disk for me. In my memory that scene is on par with any wow cinematic.

Link to the Past. You could hear the rain falling down, then you step outside and it was like "holy shit!"

I remember being impressed with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64, but that was more of a 'wow this is such a huge improvement over 2d games, look at the polygons!' type of thing.

Oblivion was probably the first time I was impressed in a 'wow, they're getting decently close to reality now' kind of way.

Morrowind did indeed look very good for its day, even without a top of the range (at the time of course) PC. I think I spent as much time just enjoying the scenery (well, between cliffracer ambushes) as I did questing

probably the first game to impress me graphically though was The Secret Of Monkey Island with the closeups of the characters faces during dialogue

it was one of the first Amiga games I played though so I was used to the graphics of a ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64
