Nintendo Content Creators no longer allowed to stream on YouTube

I originally posted this to the Switch thread, but figured it deserved it's own.

As of midnight EDT September 29th, 2017, the Nintendo Content Creators program had it's Terms of Service updated to this:

TL;DR: If your channel is wholly apart of the program, you cannot livestream on YouTube anymore.

You can livestream on other sources, or you can also remove yourself from the program and put up your videos one by one for validation so you can livestream and still get your paltry earnings from Nintendo.

From what I've been reading on NeoGAF, people are blaming this entirely on PewDiePie and his racism fiasco. It's timing is (not sure what word to use, perfect?) for it not to be. Conservative Japanese company, biggest name in YouTube/streaming uses a very controversial racist term on a stream. Bam, people affiliated with us can no longer stream.

Hopefully, we'll get official word from Nintendo Co., Ltd, Nintendo of America, or Nintendo of Europe soonish.

So the morons at NeoGAF are just ignoring that Nintendo has been pulling shit like this for a while now?

    Sounds about right.

I have always found it funny (and sad) that a company that is innovative in many ways can be so behind the times in other ways.

Their YouTube policies in general are about a decade behind all the other developers and publishers who have realised that online creator content is basically free advertising. The livestreaming stuff is zero surprise to me, given that, but it's still very unfortunate.

Who even streams games on youtube when Twitch is so massive in comparison? I'd say youtube live is all about the IRL content and not the gaming stuff.

Twitch > Youtube Live at gaming
Youtube Live > Twitch at IRL

As long as they don't restrict the option to stream their game on Twitch, it's fine.

Sega does what Nintendont. Specifically let folks freely create content using their games and monetize the videos, while reaping all that free marketing.

Sucks for the few people that stream I guess. Personally I dont care tbh. I dont earn money by streaming games so. I never watch streams if Im interested in a game as I dont want to spoil them for myself.

I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't faded away completely. They're mostly irrelevant these days.

Nintendo is so stupid, it's free exposure.. it gets people to actually PAY you for your game.

Lets not forget the Shinning Force fiasco, or more recently how Sega UK screwed the people who pre-ordered Sonic Mania for PC, although that last one isn't really related to streaming

OT: Doesn't surprise me, maybe they didn't get the money they were expecting? From what I remember they pretty much wanted a piece of the pie. On the other hand, if this applies only to Youtube maybe is more related to something Google might have done?

Sounds like Nintendo will be blast processing DMCA notices.

Not even just free advertising. It creates content for the game thats free. You get to join communities, discords, sub reddits, meme pages, etc etc. None of which is paid for by the devs

The last thing Nintendo needs is free exposure.

Sucky move, yeah, sure. But I always find it odd that people seem to think the free advertising helps Nintendo when its probably the smallest drop in the bucket.

Even people who barely know video games can probably name all of Nintendo's IPs. That's how well known they are. Mario is basically a household name, almost, if not on par with Mickey mouse. This is just another case of Nintendo doing what they want, because this field doesn't really matter to them.
