They can't say no, it's a legal order from the Commander-in-Chief. Even if it's a stupid fucking waste.

The founding fathers must've been sniffing glue when they didn't think stuff like this all the way through. Why does one person have so much power in a constitutional republic again?

Didn't his wish for a dictators adulation get blocked last time?

I don't think anyone could have predicted someone like Trump taking power.

As for the latter bit, it's a mixture of a few things.

    1. Congress giving more and more military authority to the executive branch as they don't want the responsibility of dealing with consequences.

    2. Literally it never being considered that a president would want to have an authoritarian military parade akin to what we see in NK/China/Russia, because that wasn't even a concept at the time.

They were (arguably) great men, but they can't see into the future.

The Pentagon said it was too costly and the city council fought against it. It wasn't canceled by the Pentagon, but the optics were so bad for the administration they caved on it (thankfully).

If this draft dodger parade does take place, then atleast it will set a precedent. I hope the next democrat president throws a grand 'ol gay parade complete with circus music, strap-ons and an orgy.

One person doesn't have so much power. Congress has a lot of power to block him from doing shit like this. The Founding Fathers just never assumed Congress would outright refuse to exercise their powers of oversight over a corrupt leader.

Largely, I agree. But I'm not above a little petty partisan retribution for the folks that thing that good governance = "pissing off libs"

"Trump claims military is 'thrilled' to participate in his July 4 celebration"

This guy is fucking clueless. Besides the irony of using the military to celebrate someone who was never in the military, and the millions of dollars this will cost, this really isn't respectful to people in the service. If you have never served in the military it may not be apparent but no one enjoys these things. There will be countless hours spent practicing marches, constant details and inspections, then having to travel to another location, eat and sleep somewhere else. Day of the event will require even more inspections to make sure everything is perfect, they probably won't have an actual meal besides an MRE because they have to show up early around 4AM for collecting weapons, then getting to formation and having a pre-inspection by 8AM then another inspection by 9am which will all together take about 5 hours with nothing really happening. Then there is the standing out in uniform in the heat for hours.

These people should be enjoying the 4th of July celebrations with their friends and family, not in a parade.

    Seriously wtf

The Trump administration wants to scale back a program that protects undocumented family members of active-duty troops from being deported, according to attorneys familiar with those plans.

The attorneys are racing to submit applications for what is known as parole in place after hearing from the wives and loved ones of deployed soldiers who have been told that option is "being terminated."

The protections will only be available under rare circumstances, the lawyers said they've been told.

"It's going to create chaos in the military," said Margaret Stock, an immigration attorney who represents recruits and veterans in deportation proceedings. "The troops can't concentrate on their military jobs when they're worried about their family members being deported."

Pretty simple, I'd put money on this policy being the brainchild of Miller. It's got just the right amount of amorality and pointless hate for his dead, soulless eyes.

As a vet this guy fking gets it. I've never met a soldier that enjoyed doing some dumb parade or ceremony, nevermind when they LOSE THEIR DAY OFF BECAUSE OF IT!

The timing couldn't be more appropriate. Trump wants a military parade...I think the above should be bruited about in the military's face.

What the military wants doesn't really matter. Trump loves using the military as a human shield, because they are legally required not to criticize him. The Military cannot come out and say they don't want to do this, it wouldn't be in any way acceptable to do so. This is not fundamentally illegal, and therefore it is a lawful order that they have to follow and not publicly bitch about. Which Trump, who does not understand professionalism in any way, interprets as full support for his agenda. Which is why he is convinced the military loves all of his ideas.

Then of course he can carry on with deporting their families, sitting them in the middle of the desert on the border doing nothing, and exposing them to pointless wars, and still claim he is the patriotic one.

Because that is all this fourth of july celebration is. Using the Military as a human shield to deflect any criticism away from himself, when the celebration is entirely about himself. If anyone calls it tasteless, crass, or authoritarian, him and his minions will immediately accuse them of not supporting the Troops. Kellyanne was doing it yesterday already. His base will eat it up, some members of the left will rage, and most of the nation will sigh and go on with their life.

Question is, how much will this be a July 4th celebration and how much will be a Trump campaign rally/bitch fest/Trump is bestest President EVAR.

Think of it more as a fundraising event.

Yes, our tax payer money going to a political rally. It's a rally sine the GOP is offering VIP tickets.

Funds from our National Parks diverted for his narcissism and ego. All to feed a wannabe dictator's idea of a parade with military equipment.

What's worse is that everyone knows what he is doing but there is no efficient way to keep it from happening. He just gets to waste taxpayer time and money on a campaign rally. And we know he pockets half the money he makes from his campaign...so he is literally looting the country.
