2024 General Election--Trump vs. Biden 2: Electric Boogaloo

Mods, if there is already a thread for the topic present just delete this one. There weren't any when I checked.

Anyhoo, it's that time again for spending way too fucking long in a runup to an election when everyone has already decided who they're going to vote for by now. There's sure to be a lot of clownery and shenanigans around the process to discuss, so I figure it should all be consolidated here instead of clogging up the dedicated Trump and Biden threads.

Hey, I'll start. Remember how the GOP are constantly going on about how aggressively purging the voter rolls is necessary for healthy elections as an excuse to basically disenfranchise folks who'll likely vote Democrat? Well, somewhere out there a finger on a monkey paw started twitching...

Texas GOP sounds alarm after voter roll purge hits Republicans on Super Tuesday

The Republican Party of Texas suggested election officials may have purged too many of their voters from the voting rolls.

In a message on Super Tuesday, the Texas GOP sounded the alarm about possible problems with voting.

"We have received reports from election judges that some Republican voters in Travis County have not been able to vote," the post on X said.

"This is due to an update to voter registration rolls that took place between early voting and Election Day. We alerted the Secretary of State's office, they followed up with the county elections office as did the Travis County Republican Party."

"If you experience this, you can request and vote by provisional ballot. We at the Republican Party of Texas Headquarters are actively supporting the Travis County Republican Party to resolve any current or further issues."

Election officials generally purge voter rolls between elections. In 2012, Travis County removed 41,000 voters from the voter rolls.

But reports have claimed that Republicans have been much more active in purging the rolls since the 2020 election.

"Protecting the right to vote is one of the most important things our courts can do," Georgetown Law Paul Smith wrote. "Even those who rail against 'judicial activism' and in favor of democratic decision-making ought to recognize that when the democracy is distorted by the actions of elected officials, only the courts can help. Stopping unnecessary and unjustified voter purges is a prime example."
Note that tiny window when the "update" took place. Yeah, I'm expecting to see more of this happening during the General. Except this time they might have ironed out the kinks so that it's only affecting those whose votes they don't need.

The rematch that no-one wants but we're all stuck with. You're right about way too long runup to the election, since at this point there isn't really anything new we can learn about the candidates.

    *sigh*
"We must make our choice. We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both."

It's quite likely that neither of these two mummies will be alive once the next term is over, so one can hope you guys - and, I suppose, us, the rest of the world - won't have to suffer this farce for long. That being said, I guess the cult mummy is bound to do a lot more damage in whatever time he has left.

Anyone remember that stupid Scooby Doo werewolf movie? Where it was like some Whacky Races shit?

The way the crowd "cheered" keeps replaying in my mind any time I see or hear anything about this election.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

I imagine women and men who care about women already have plenty of cause to pay attention and vote.

Because the President controls that issue? If that's the case then why hasn't Biden secured a woman's right to body autonomy yet? It's not like a bunch of SC Justices are expected to retire in the next four years either - not that the typical thinks about that at the ballot box anyway.

The general voter is not excited about either one of those people. Its going to be a long year to make sure Democrats go to the polls. Republicans go regardless, Democrats are very much "vibes based" voters. Speak to people who don't discuss politics on the internet and ask them about their feelings towards the upcoming election.

is anybody likely to change their mind on who to vote for between now and the election?
we already know that the cultists will vote for trump even if he's in prison and caught on camera slagging off all the people gullible enough to trust him
we know everybody else is just going to be voting against trump. the democrats could have put a block of wood as their candidate and everybody outside the cult would vote for it (it would probably do a better job than most world leaders too) because it's not trump and that's good enough

It's not going to come down to changing people's mind just who decides to stay home, I don't think we are going to be hitting any voting records unless something big happens. The base voters are what they are the real enemy is apathy, republicans usually win when there is apathy they haven't won the popular vote in decades so it's all on the electoral college.

Between the two going with only reasons for me to vote for either.

    Biden: Stabilized the economy.

    Trump: Will secure the border.

Basing this on what they have done or said they would do go going forward.

It works because now moderate liberals are adopting conservative talking points about the border.

People living on the border don't seem to think it's scare. According local poll https://www.ketk.com/news/your-local...mexico-border/ 52% of Texas seem to feel that they need a wall at the border as of February.

According to KXAN Greg Abbot has a 53% Approval rating.

OR! Or despite our differences about the border solution, and loaded racist language on the issue by Trumpsters, the fact is people, PEOPLE living in those areas seem to be pretty convinced there is a problem.

Couple that with that the entire COUNTRY is having a problem with rising crime, rampant homelessness of citizens, CITIZENS, yes, consider that maybe just MAYBE there is a problem, the Trumpers are exploiting that, and ITS WORKING!

Homelessness has nothing to do with the border. It's a socio-economic issue that neither candidate is serious about. Spoiler alert though, it's not because we don't have vacancies.

Biden was ready to secure the border. As was the Senate. The House shot it down, because Trump wants the border unsecure for another year until he gets elected and can claim it as his own victory (he can use it as a talking point and scare people into voting for him, bigly hugely win!). So please tell me again how Trump will secure the border, totes for realsies, when we could've already had the problem taken care of if not for his bullshit.

Aside from rhetoric, can you point to a specific policy where Trump and Biden differ on the border? Biden continued all of Trump's border policies including wall building and use of Title 42 and pass through country asylum policy.
