Which senate republicans will only do being dragged kicking and screaming.

Not to mention the $600 a week unemployment set to expire in a little over 2 weeks. If they completely eliminate that, we're going to have big problems.

If they wait until the last second to announce that they ARE eliminating that, I predict we'll have meaningful unrest.

I think it's possible it might help in that there are some remaining hours in employees shifts after they close for the staff to basically thoroughly clean every surface, but that's assuming they do it right, and that fomites would last overnight to the next opening.

Probably too little, too late. We're deep in the shit now and probably going to get worse.

Also I think it's because of how fake Trump looks in general, but the mask in the photo almost looks shopped.

I'll bet literally any Trump supporter that dares to show their virtual face in the next 24 hours that Trump says some version of "I always wore a mask and told everyone to wear a mask" within a week.

I also claim victory if Trump's campaign, not just random-ass Trump supporters but his actual official campaign, starts selling red Trump masks within a month.

    "What if you lose?"

We'll see if anyone even accepts the bet. Then we can dictate terms. I was going to say "loser takes a voluntary week without posting" but let's face it, Trump supporters are cowering in their bunkers wetting themselves right now. Taking a week off is what they do all the time anyhow. Sometimes they even pop up to say "echo chamber!" when it's their cowardice that leads to only one group saying anything. Whereas a week off for me would just turn the fact-based evidence that Trump is failing at everything flow from an 11 down to a 9-point-something.

I guess I should post a few other quick things.

    1) Sen. Toomey [R-PA] said the effective pardon of Stone was a mistake.

    2) The companies that employ the literal not figurative not hyperbole literally more than half of all American private sector workers wrote an open letter saying DACA needs to be left in place. Signers include the US Chamber of Commerce, the National Retail Foundation, and Facebook. Tread lightly, Trump, Facebook owns your fucking future and you know it.

    3) It's time for Guess the Sessions!

I’ve taken the road less travelled. Not sought fame or fortune. My honor and integrity are far more important than these juvenile insults. Your scandal ridden candidate is too cowardly to debate. As you know, Alabama does not take orders from Washington
    4) Trump is losing Kansas and Montana.

    5) Louisiana issues face-mask mandate.

    6) The GOP are trying to push the myth that children are safe from COVID-19 and some are even suggesting they can't transmit it, such as Cornyn. We rate this claim False.

    7) Speaking of which, Our Ruling

Pence said Biden "said that well-armed police in his words ‘become the enemy’ and he said that he would ‘absolutely cut funding for law enforcement.’"

Biden said police become the enemy when they use military equipment in a way that’s like invading a neighborhood. That context is missing from Pence’s portrayal.

Biden also said he is open to redirecting some police funding to social services, but he has stated opposition to fully defunding the police. In fact, he has proposed more funding for community policing and using federal funding to incentivize police reform.

The statement contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression. We rate it Mostly False.
    8) Fuck Florida, and I hope you know what you're doing, Disney.

    9) Things are so bad, that the top three headlines on FOX News right now are, in order, (1) Detroit police release vid of officer-involved shooting that sparked protests (2) NEWT GINGRICH: Anti-Trump Republicans proof Deep State alive (3) Texas hospital says man, 30, died after attending 'COVID party'

I don't blame them for talking about a police shooting in which the police officer was justified, but is it really the most important issue of the day? I mean, I hadn't even heard of this shooting or any protests from that shooting. It's mostly been decades of outrage packed like gunpowder and Floyd's death lighting the match. Also, Newt Gingrich posting a conspiracy theory about his own party? That reeks of desperation. And I couldn't help but notice that they couldn't even think of a third story.

9a) Missing from FOX News front page? Any reference of Trump's visit to the hospital, any picture of Trump in a mask.

    10) And finally, from CNN, now accepted Real News from everyone on these forums, Expert warns the US is approaching 'one of the most unstable times in the history of our country'

With rising Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations sending many states backward in their reopening plans, one health expert warns that if the US continues on its current path it will reach "one of the most unstable times in the history of our country."

"We will have hospitals overwhelmed and not only in terms of ICU beds and hospitals -- and that's bad -- but exhausted hospital staff and hospital staff that's getting ill themselves," Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of tropical medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN Friday night. "So, we won't have enough manpower, human power, to manage all of this."

Only five states saw a decrease of at least 10% in average new daily cases over the past week. And the US set a record for the highest single day of new cases for the second time this week with 66,627 cases on Friday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

There have been more than 3,225,721 confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States, Johns Hopkins University said. That's more than the population of 21 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

At least 134,580 people have died from complications of the virus.

The resurgence has many local leaders returning to actions taken in March and April to slow the spread of the virus.

At least 26 states have paused or rolled back their plans to reopen.

Atlanta's mayor and Georgia's governor are at odds over the mayor's order Friday to send her city back to Phase 1 of its reopening plan. Citing an "alarming" increase in cases, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said residents under this phase should leave the house only for essential trips, and restaurants and retailers must offer only to-go or curbside pickup service.

Gov. Brian Kemp's office said the mayor's plan is not "legally enforceable" because Kemp signed an order prohibiting local action from being more prohibitive than the state's requirements. To free the capacity for more testing and hospital care in a surge, Kemp reactivated a makeshift hospital Friday at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott renewed a disaster declaration first issued March 13 to mitigate spread in his state, while Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer requested the extension of National Guard use through December for humanitarian missions such as running mobile screenings, distributing food and medical supplies and disinfecting public spaces.

"All people who study these viruses think that the summer is the quiet time. Think about that. This is the quiet time for coronavirus," Dr. William Haseltine, a former professor at Harvard Medical School, told CNN on Friday. "If this is the quiet time, I hate to think what winter is going to be like this year."
The evidence that Trump is a dismal failure who is running out of friends is everywhere. That took me about fifteen minutes.

To take your post more seriously than it was intended, I'm willing to bet "steak dinner and hot fudge sundae dessert" money that Trump was told he couldn't set foot in the door without a mask on. He had three choices: wear a mask like an adult, throw a tantrum and blame the hospital, or cancel and blame the weather.

Yeah, good luck with that last one.

I like how the story of Trump intervening to save his buddy from a prison sentence is buried in a 2588 page thread because we couldn't possibly have more than one Trump related thread at a time.

Can we condense all of the "cancel culture" and "SJW" threads into one black hole of a thread too? I'm kinda getting sick and tired of those horseshit posts.

NBC News reports that Barr asked Trump not to do it.

But since when does Trump listen to any advice, even from his most experienced and most loyal supporters?

Note that hoping the pandemic would blow over was a very stupid move, considering it swept through Europe and much of the US isn't that different from the old continent in terms of demographics and, to a lesser extent, climate. I don't know what these people actually expected.
They may not have intended the end results of their actions, no one every really does, but the GOPs intention since Nixon has been to make those without and minorities suffer, to a lesser degree the Democratic party. They have intentionally de-funded public schools, social safety nets, and have continued to disenfranchise citizens from voting, passed laws to keep them from voting, have enacted draconian, and austere policies intended to hurt females and PoC. Every thing they do is to inflict suffering on some group of people so they can get rich and/or powerful in return.

SO don't say there was no malicious intent. Maybe not as directly as some propose, but they have been actively working to weaken the federal government so that it cannot do it's fundamental duty, which is to protect the welfare of it's citizens.

The good news: "only" 61,719 new cases today.

The bad news: it's the weekend and I'm seeing a lot of counties that haven't reported, so that's probably off by a couple thousand. North and South Carolina and Arkansas all posted new records. Other states probably did too but again, I'm limiting my research to those that break 1k for my own sanity. It's been a bad week. (Fuck) Florida passed 10k again. Texas and California are in the 8k range again. Overall there are 13 states in the "thousands" range when, a couple weeks ago, there were only 4-5.

Deaths are, once again, up. Discounting last weekend because of the holiday, deaths are up about 200 compared to the Saturday before. In fact you have to go back to the end of May to see a death count on Saturday that's higher than the 733 recorded today. The curve is going back up, due in no small part to the absolute flood of new cases overwhelming hospitals.

I'm a bit burnt following yesterday's news, so I don't really have much more in-depth analysis for you. It's the weekend, so expect things not to sound too bad until Tuesday or Wednesday when the corrections come in, as usual. In the meantime, wear a fucking mask.

    Sorry folks. Stay safe.
