I think it's possible it might help in that there are some remaining hours in employees shifts after they close for the staff to basically thoroughly clean every surface, but that's assuming they do it right, and that fomites would last overnight to the next opening.

I'll bet literally any Trump supporter that dares to show their virtual face in the next 24 hours that Trump says some version of "I always wore a mask and told everyone to wear a mask" within a week.

I also claim victory if Trump's campaign, not just random-ass Trump supporters but his actual official campaign, starts selling red Trump masks within a month.

We'll see if anyone even accepts the bet. Then we can dictate terms. I was going to say "loser takes a voluntary week without posting" but let's face it, Trump supporters are cowering in their bunkers wetting themselves right now. Taking a week off is what they do all the time anyhow. Sometimes they even pop up to say "echo chamber!" when it's their cowardice that leads to only one group saying anything. Whereas a week off for me would just turn the fact-based evidence that Trump is failing at everything flow from an 11 down to a 9-point-something.

I don't blame them for talking about a police shooting in which the police officer was justified, but is it really the most important issue of the day? I mean, I hadn't even heard of this shooting or any protests from that shooting. It's mostly been decades of outrage packed like gunpowder and Floyd's death lighting the match. Also, Newt Gingrich posting a conspiracy theory about his own party? That reeks of desperation. And I couldn't help but notice that they couldn't even think of a third story.

9a) Missing from FOX News front page? Any reference of Trump's visit to the hospital, any picture of Trump in a mask.

I agree, I doubt we must attribute malice where stupidity is an ample enough explanation. They thought this would blow over like the previous SARS before it, but instead the pandemic exploded, they have no plans and just sit there hoping the States can pick up the slack, but it won't be enough.

Note that hoping the pandemic would blow over was a very stupid move, considering it swept through Europe and much of the US isn't that different from the old continent in terms of demographics and, to a lesser extent, climate. I don't know what these people actually expected.

They may not have intended the end results of their actions, no one every really does, but the GOPs intention since Nixon has been to make those without and minorities suffer, to a lesser degree the Democratic party. They have intentionally de-funded public schools, social safety nets, and have continued to disenfranchise citizens from voting, passed laws to keep them from voting, have enacted draconian, and austere policies intended to hurt females and PoC. Every thing they do is to inflict suffering on some group of people so they can get rich and/or powerful in return.

SO don't say there was no malicious intent. Maybe not as directly as some propose, but they have been actively working to weaken the federal government so that it cannot do it's fundamental duty, which is to protect the welfare of it's citizens.

The good news: "only" 61,719 new cases today.

The bad news: it's the weekend and I'm seeing a lot of counties that haven't reported, so that's probably off by a couple thousand. North and South Carolina and Arkansas all posted new records. Other states probably did too but again, I'm limiting my research to those that break 1k for my own sanity. It's been a bad week. (Fuck) Florida passed 10k again. Texas and California are in the 8k range again. Overall there are 13 states in the "thousands" range when, a couple weeks ago, there were only 4-5.

Deaths are, once again, up. Discounting last weekend because of the holiday, deaths are up about 200 compared to the Saturday before. In fact you have to go back to the end of May to see a death count on Saturday that's higher than the 733 recorded today. The curve is going back up, due in no small part to the absolute flood of new cases overwhelming hospitals.

I'm a bit burnt following yesterday's news, so I don't really have much more in-depth analysis for you. It's the weekend, so expect things not to sound too bad until Tuesday or Wednesday when the corrections come in, as usual. In the meantime, wear a fucking mask.
