It happens when there's a glut of deleted posts. Normal deletion keeps the post visible for mods, so they can reference it on their end; the post still "exists", it's just invisible for users; a page with a deleted post will have 19 posts rather than 20. When there's a lot, in a thread, it can create "ghost pages".

The admins can clear that up (and have, for this thread, I see), maybe the blues, but it requires some options the regular mods don't have, and outside of threads with a few hundred pages, it's usually never noticeable.
