Funny that we're talking disposable income, because it's taken a nose-dive in the last year or so. That, combined with the nose-dive of consumer confidence in September, are yet more warning signs of a coming recession.
I've personally quoted in the last year or so six or so articles that said, basically, "things would be worse but consumer spending/confidence remains high for some reason". Well, that's ending. And it's taking the GDP with it. Atlanta just predicted 1.8% GDP growth in Q3, as in "less than 2%", and lower manufacturing -- how's it going, GM? -- is only part of that. That's down from 2.1% their earlier prediction.
"Well, as long as the trade war -- "
Breaking news, this just in: WTO rules in favor of the US in the Airbus dispute, opening up the option for up to $7.5 billion in US tariffs on EU products.
"Oh, fuck."
Considering wages have been stagnant for years and due to inflation the last generation was earning more than we do now for even just minimum wage....no!

Nothing like being able to afford college by literally washing dishes back then, but now if you only washed dishes you'd be lucky enough to be able to feed yourself while paying for school.

Zenkai only said
She said our quality living has gone up, not that our quantity of time living has increased.
But seriously, healthcare has skyrocketed and it's fucking stupid. Without the ACA last year my hernia surgery would have cost me $60k+ rather than the $600 it cost me in the end and that was from a six hour surgery and a two night stay at the hospital.

It's horrifying. Per Bloomsberg,
And don't get me started on college textbooks, because I'll go on about that all day and drop more f-bombs than Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The cost of family health coverage in the U.S. now tops $20,000, an annual survey of employers found, a record high that has pushed an increasing number of American workers into plans that cover less or cost more, or force them out of the insurance market entirely.
The worst part is that in a lot of cases the industries which are eating up the entirety of people's disposable income don't offer economic returns in the same way that industries that produce consumer goods or provide services in that class.
All of this money is just being poured into the pockets of these business owners and Americans are ultimately no better or worse off than when they started. Folks like to talk about how Cold War 2 Chinese Boogaloo is the biggest threat facing the US; but climate change aside, the US even existing may be a function of whether or not it can actually fix its fundamentally broken economy.

When does the “shit on the streets” argument end and where does this argument begging?
Outside of learning how to query, which isn’t a given, being able to google doesn’t make one smart. It makes people dependent on technology... your intellect doesn’t change with your ability to access a computer.
But, I don’t think that’s Trump issue. I think it’s a misunderstanding where being able to comment on the subject is noting his intelligence, even if the comment is liddle’ bigly covafefe.

You know what? you are not alone in this. Here in Chile we also have (had) stupidly high college tuition costs, at least for our standard of living, that left many of us with sky high student debts.
You know what we did? we protested. For 3 years, with massive student strikes, that paralyzed our country at times. And we (sorta) got a cheaper tuition (at least for the poorest ones).
