Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Unless you think his statement was "a parody of extreme views [that was] obviously exaggerated".

These sentencing hearings take too damn long.

I respectfully disagree.

This is a major case (well, half or even a third of a major case...) and the judge needs to very specifically lay out why the sentence is what it is. We saw that last time, too, when Judge T. S. Ellis basically said "Hey, I know you were proven to have committed fraud against banks and the US for over a decade, but until you were caught you weren't a criminal, please return the wheelchair to the homeless guy you stole it from when you're done begging for pity" and gave him a slap on the wrist. This judge has every right, nay, the responsibility to lay out why the sentence will be what it is.

And, right about now, I'm actually glad she goes second. Because she now gets to decide if the sentence is up to 14 years, which based on Manafort's age is either "be 80+ with no money in the USA so fuck you" or "die in prison".

I do find it hilarious that Manafort's team is arguing he would have gotten away with his crimes if not for getting involved in the Trump campaign.

He did get what everyone gets...in that most people sent to prison have an average of 10 years behind bars.

Sorry, that should have been "most people sent to prison have at least 10 years behind bars up to 14 by state". Manafort's almost four year sentence is actually lower than the lowest average in the US, in the year 2000, and is even lighter by today's standards.
