With everything what has been heard about NHS lately I am not surprised at all. I wonder what the excuse from NHS would be if help was available juuuuuuust after 18th birthday?

Not because of mental illness. It's because of the "war on drugs" and above.

Yep, or within a few days. Every single time I've gotten sick, I've always been referred to a specialist either the same day or within the week. I've never waited more than a week for treatment for anything.

Same. I had to drop out of high school at 17 after a suicide attempt and the psychiatrist I saw kept telling me I'd feel better if I got a job. It took about a year before I was even able to go back to to school to finish my diploma. Years later when I was in the work force I was fired due to my depression (yay for "right to work" states -_-) and the psychiatrist I saw then (different one, different state) also kept telling me I'd feel better once I got another job. I don't know why this is a thing for them.

It's an illness of the mind, so people believe you have some sort of conscious control over it. Few stop to think that the brain is an organ that's just as susceptible to disease as any other in the body. It just so happens that it affects thought and emotion.

I was involved in a very violent robbery at my old job, which led to me being diagnosed with ptsd/panic attacks but since it was at work related all treatment had to get approved by my works insurance company and that took months to get approved which led to my ptsd getting severely out of hand and alot of the treatments got denied too. It happened in 2007 and im "not back to normal" to this day.
