What did you give/get for Christmas this year?

I know it's probably shallow and materialistic to talk about presents, but I just enjoy the tradition. I'm working on being a better gift giver this year, too.

    GIVE:

Mom- Cuisinart 14-piece nonstick aluminum cookware set I found at JCPenney- caught it during a Cyber Week sale for $125. Our old Member's Mark set from Sam's Club is beat to holy hell and it's starting to stick.

Stepdad- Not sure yet. He's not too fond of Christmas for some reason, so probably some new jeans or some country music cassettes to listen to during his lunch break at work. Mom got him new sweatshirts for work- he works in a poultry processing plant and they keep it cold on the production floor.

Guy at work- SNES Classic. Honestly, I bought it for myself at first but I realized it was a dumbass idea since I have almost all of those games on it. But I saw no point in returning it when I could give it to someone who really wanted one- he absolutely loves it, says he feels like a kid again.

    GET:

I know my mom got me some nice pajama pants this year. I'm 25 so I don't ask for much if anything- I usually get it for myself. Got Super Mario Odyssey and a crate o' games- 24 of them- from Gamestop that was around $222- been switching my PC library back to console and I got the rest of the PC>PS3 stuff with this order, with Wario Land 4 and Super Paper Mario in there for good measure.

Isn't it a bit too early for that now?

I haven't given my mom her present yet considering it isn't here, and I still need to get my stepdad's present. I guess "will be giving' would be more accurate.

I got nothing and give nothing. Sad life

Picking out presents is a horrible chore, my gf picks them and asks if I think it's a good choice and I always say yes because what the hell do I know. If it were left to me everyone would get Amazon gift cards which is practical but not very thoughtful.

Give: I bought my wife some diamond studded earrings.

Get: Pretty sure she got me a 3d printer.

Not Christian, so I don't celebrate it.

I did give my co-workers the week off the on-call rotation so they can celebrate with their families uninterrupted by work.

It's December 4th. Couldn't you have waited until actual Christmas to make this worthless thread?

Lot's of non Christians celebrate Christmas. It's about spending time with your family and friends not all that religious crap.

I know what I am getting. Nothing, I won't be able to see my family again this year. Only thing I am giving is something to my nephew and I have yet to decide what that will be mainly because the spoiled little shit doesn't need any more.

my dad passed away on Friday, suddenly and totally unexpectedly. So I'm getting a funeral for Christmas

I got a nice tax cut from Congress!

Aside of that, we don't do gifts anymore. Just cards. It's nice just to get together for dinner.

    Nothing/Nothing.

No-one to give to or receive from.

Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.

I'm getting mostly gift cards for my family this year and it's what I'm going to do from now on unless I know exactly what somebody wants/needs. As the years go by Christmas is more and more becoming a pain in the ass. Like you spend all this money on gifts for people and most of the time none of them use the gift you gave them or even see it ever again. Probably stored in their closets somewhere or maybe even given away or thrown in the trash. So to me it feels like a waste of money.

So now it's all gift cards with a couple of specific items like football team stuff which I won't be doing next year anymore either since I haven't seen any of my family members wear the stuff I gave them. This will probably be the last year I buy specific gifts. Next year everyone is just getting gift cards.

As far as what I'm getting I don't care anymore. I just like letting it be a surprise. I'd actually be fine with just a bunch of gift cards to places I like to go. Unfortunately despite them knowing how much I'm into video games and toys I hardly ever get any gift cards to places like Gamestop or Toy R Us. It's always more clothing or something that I will never use. I mean don't get me wrong I'm grateful for whatever I get it's just a bit irritating knowing that your family KNOWS what you like but for some reason refuses to get it. I always feel bad getting a gift knowing that I will never use it or interact with it.

Bought myself new headers for the car and a nice winter coat for my better half.

I won't get anything, I'm ok w/ that. I'll be happy enough if I get to keep my job through the holidays

    It's a co-opted holiday, celebrate away.

We'd generally prefer not to. Something feels not quite right with commercialism of another's most holy day of the year.

My family works this way: You spend all of your gift money on yourself. Because, seriously, screw off if you know what I want; I know better. Instead we buy gag gifts for each other to open.

It works. Except for the young kids, they get something to play with so they stop bothering us.

Let's all ride the Gish gallop.
