Just saw that... good god, the eyes decision was TERRIBLE! I get why they did it and what they were (...) trying for, but ugh! Especially since everybody else's eyes is, well, normal. >_<

Those eyes are so wierd. They want it to look like anime or something? If so, fuck that movie.

I'm sure that's exactly what they were trying for, trying to blend Anime and Real - and oholyshit did they fail miserably! Somebody should've just said "no" and, if anything, try it again so it's less creepy-as-F! >_<

It's sad as I kinda want to respect them for trying to respect the Anime, but UGH! >_<

Hahahaha, oh man... They REALLY shot themselves in the foot. Or rather, in the eyes.

This film looked AMAZING. 99.99% of that trailer was gold, the cast is fantastic... but WHAT THE FUCK is going on with those eyes, man?

Seriously, how did they all sign off on that XD?

Looks like expensive shit with top of the line cast.

    A waste of resources.

After thinking about it I think the odd face will really work for this. There is a lot of body horror in Battle Angel, sometimes goofy and sometimes grotesque. Since Alita is a full body cyborg a natural human face would be even weirder and would be taking the easy way out for the movie creators. They just need to establish a visual consistency by giving other full body cyborgs a similar treatment. We didn't get to see much of that consistency in the trailer.

I'm a big fan of Battle Angel Alita and this looks like a better adaptation than Ghost in the Shell was so I'll go see it. I know it probably won't be successful enough to create sequels but that would be my secret hope. The series just gets better over time and there are a lot of mysteries that are only revealed slowly. Desty Nova is also such a great villain that I'd love to see him.

So was this one delayed so long until Cameron's team could develop the technology to deliver us those SWEET looking eyes? Jesus fucking Christ what a waste. Thinking of skipping this one on principle of not supporting such a retarded design decision.

Looks good, Robert Rodriguez is underrated as a director. Mostly his own fault for choosing such campy scripts. But at his best he can really elevate the material.
It'll be interesting to see them embrace the uncanny valley like this, adds some artistic merit to the film. Which worked for films like Ex Machina and Splice.

It's like the total opposite of Ghost in the Shell. They're being very honest with the subject material, cyborgs, not being human. Whereas GiTS went in half-hearted, whitewashed, backtracked, a just made a mess of everything.

I'm quite interested by this, Battle Angel Alita was one of the first animé I saw in the 90s when Channel 4 used to show them late night (along with Legend of the Four Kings, Fist of the North Star and 3x3 Eyes.)

I don't get it, why is everyone so overly freaked out by the creepy robot girl? It just looks like Rodriguez took some tips from del'Toro (and if this creeps you out please steer clear of Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy.)

Most importantly, I spotted a great big hammer but can anyone confirm it's rocket powered?

The eyes bother me a bit. If anything they should have made her lips just lightly bigger since that was the thing people would tease her about occasionally.
Life doesn’t get easier, we just grow stronger.

Oh god no. Also PG 13 i bet.
If all were CGI the eyes would be fine but with real people nope never.

You know it's supposed to make her stand out from "real people," right? Making the non-super-robots look the same wouldn't make sense.

Bullshit, its a break with the artstyle they just throw a mangacharakter on the screen with real people and that dont work.

How do you mean "break with the art-style?" It's real people and a freaky robot girl. Do you also think the other cyborgs are "a break with the art-style" because their chunky robot bodies don't look the same as regular people?

The eyes are very slightly off-putting, sure, for a few seconds. But that doesn't instantly mean I refuse to watch the movie or that the movie is going to be shit or that they've "shot themselves in the foot."

The movie looks accurate, from what they've shown, and I'll ensure I watch it.
I find the mouth to be more distracting, I think it's because eyes are just shiny orbs so the CGI technogy can handle it whereas the mouth creeps in to the uncanny valley.

The eyes aren't even the main issue. Battle Angel contains mountains of gore. The gruesome, gritty looks is an essential part of the series, not to mention the hard sci-fi elements and themes of identity and spirituality.
How in the world they're going to bring this into a PG13 Hollywood movie is beyond me. This is going to be a shitshow.

Change her into a stereotypical Martian and suddenly the film becomes a little more palatable to watch.

I applaud any film for being bold in their aesthetics. I am also intimately familiar with the source material and Japanese aesthetics in general. And the eyes don't do it for me. They're too obviously CGI, and the Uncanny Valley kicks in BIG TIME. I get what they were aiming for, but looking at the execution, it should have become clear that it wouldn't work.

That single feature will ruin the film, I'm pretty sure. That's not to say it can't otherwise be a good picture, of course. It won't matter, though. Personally, I ALSO expect the film to be shit (like most manga/anime adaptions) but the eyes are gonna kill it regardless.

Also I'm a bit miffed they didn't keep Ido's Zalem tattoo, for whatever reason. Too bindi, or what? But I guess it's a minor thing.
